Monors (unaccompanied) thru customs/immigration in/out of US
A new thing to obsess about. I know all about bringing letters if minor is flying out of country with only one parent. But what if minor is flying to Spain without any parents?
Sixteen year old dtr will be flying unaccompanied to Spain this summer to visit an exchange student who stayed with us in 2005. She is a competent and, with us anyway, experienced traveler. Does she need anything other than the obvious passport for customs/immigration into Spain and back into US? Are under-18 year olds allowed to board international flights without any parental permission? Can't find any info on Dept of State website. |
OK - I know it should be minors in heading.

I think you need to check with your specific airline for details. Delta, for example requires unaccompanied minor service for children 14 and under.
I very much doubt there are issues with a 16 year old with a valid passport. |
My 17-year old had no problems flying alone to Germany for a summer program. |
My DH's daughter began flying alone to visit us outside the US at age 16, and needed nothing further than her passport on AA.
I would still consult the specific airline to be certain, though. |
Generally speaking, airlines consider the following ages: Unaccompanied Minor-5 thru 14....Adult 15 thru 64.....
