Momofuku- which location do we want?
We want to grab an inexpensive/quick lunch at Momofuku next Saturday. I checked the website but it seems like there are 3 locations, all close to each other, and I can't really get a feel for what the difference is/which one we want.
Can someone please point me in the right direction? Here are the choices:
1. momofuku ko
2. momofuku ssam bar/bakery & milk bar
3. momofuku noodle bar map
As always, thank you!!

Ko is the reservation only by computer price fixed impossible to get into place. You don't want Ko.
Ssam Bar is a no reservation except for ordering their special Bo Ssam pork but feast lunch and diner place (and is connected by a hallway to the Milk Bar).
Noodle Bar is a block south of Ssam and has a different menu.
you can check out the menu differences thru
www.menupages.com
Personally, I prefer Ssam bar, but it's just menu preference. Ssam just got 3 stars in the NY Times so I would just go on off hours.
here's the website if you on't have it.

wow some bad typing in that previous post.
I meant to say:
Ssam Bar is a no-reservations (except for ordering their special Bo Ssam pork butt feast for 6 -10 people) lunch and dinner place (and is connected by a hallway to the Milk Bar).

Just curious. When is the noodle bar the least busy during weekdays? I notice between 3-5 on some days it's not too bad. I've seen the chef, David (Lee? Forgot his last name) in his office a couple of times walking in the neighborhood.

Thanks so much, mp, for the info. Menupages is helpful. I wonder, though, if there's any hope of finding actual prices for the Noodle Bar and/or Ssam? Menupages doesn't list them, nor do the restaurants' websites.

The menu (and thus prices) changes every day, based on the availability of ingredients. Most appetizers average $8-14 and mains are around $15-25. An average glass of wine is around $12. For NYC it's not expensive.
Have the pork buns.
Prices might be on the NYTimes review if you google it.

I finally went to Momofuku Noodle. mp is right. Those buns are delicious. Noodles were good, but not miles above the good ramen places. Interesting beer selection. Will try a different main entree next time. Forget the dish - something with Kim Che. Ssam bar up next.

Dining report from the original poster:
We ate at Momofuku Ssam Bar on Saturday for lunch. We got there at 11:28 am (they open at 11:30 am) and the place was full by 11:35 (not including the bar stools). We ordered 5 dishes to share, so pretty much pigged out, and the bill was about $80 (including tax/tip). Did get the pork buns (and weird stuff like beef tendon salad and chicken liver terrine sandwich, all of which was scary and yet surprisingly tasty- we were glad we were adventurous and trusting.)
Then we went to Milk Bar, adjacent, for some dessert. Also tasty.
Poked our heads in around the corner at Noodle Bar, which seems to have a very similar menu, and about the same prices (but a bit cheaper, overall, because of the many noodle options).
THEN, we popped our heads in at Momofuku Ko, which is RIDICULOUS. It consists of twelve bar stools and online-lottery-only reservations. Lunch costs $160 (prix fixe) and is 17 courses and takes 3 hours! Dinner is $100 (and wine costs $50/$85 or $150 extra).
If you already go to Noodle Bar, try Ssam Bar at least once- it's not much more $$. And the lunchtime option was great to avoid the crowds- we had the best table in the house- right in the window.

We have been to the orginial noodle place and the one on Second and 13th.
Both were fine but not worthy of the praise that they have received.
We also stopped at the bakery-$9, that is correct $9 for a blue cheese polenta bread. It was excellent but I am not sure it worth the money. We also has two cookies, I think they were a buck seventy five. Once agin they were fine but nothing special.
