Molokini Toilet Bowl

Best comment heard on Maui re: Molokini...

Our guide on our La Perouse kayak trip (which we took after hearing lousy things about all the tourists at Molokini, and 'cause we're kind of snobby sometimes I think) said when you think about all those snorkelers in the crater at once, all peeing around their boats at the same time, it starts to turn into a giant toilet bowl, and that's just nasty.

Just a thought.

whatever,
roxy

P.S. La Perouse was fan-freakin-tastic

As has been previously pointed out, for the fish that one ventures to see at Molokini or elsewhere, water is their natural toilet bowl, dining/living room, and cemetery-if they are lucky. :?

So, should I bag on the idea of a 1/2 day snorkel sail to Molokini? This is my 4th time to Maui & i've never been there before; I thought it was time to check it out, but maybe I'm wrong! (we have snorkeled all around the island in the past)

Jules,

Check out the Maui trip report I just posted, it talks a lot about the kayak/snorkel trip we took around La Perouse--just incredible, very few people, very serene...I've never been to Molokini, but I can't imagine that packed crater could compare to the sweet little trip we took!

We went to Molokini in the afternoon and we were the only boat there. We loved every second of it and the water was not "unusually warm" if you know what I mean.

The current is so strong around Molokini anyway, that any eau de toilette would just drift anyway. Your pool is probably filthy in comparison.

Okay, are you guys just trying to keep me in my house!

HAHA Island mom...not safe there either...after two years (I heard) 2/3 of the weight of your pillow is Dustmites and dustmite droppings. Remember that next time you use one of those airplane pillows...its like an expressway straight to your mouth. =)

Surely the water parks on the mainland, with hundreds of people an hour crowding into pools and chutes, is much worse than anything in the ocean.

Shao Lin,

Trust me, I wouldn't go in that water either.

Any one who stays away from Molokini because it is a giant toilet bowl is out of their mind !! You shouldn't believe everything that anyone tells you - especially when the person doing the telling has something to gain !

Rusty,

Actually, our tour guide does trips out to Molokini. So there.

The point is, looking out from a serene little cove on La Perouse and seeing all those huge boats in the crater makes me certain I picked the right trip. Also the point is, "best comment heard on Maui re: Molokini"...not right or wrong, just the best. And by "best" I mean, "whoa, haha".

Turn It On:

Sorry, I thought you were the one who said that you wouldn't go in the water in Molokini Crater or a water park. Must have been someone else !!

olivia Aug 5th, 2003 04:18 AM

This is getting very confusing and irrelevant, don't you think?

Suzie Aug 5th, 2003 07:41 AM

We took the Molokini sail on Four Winds an thought the trip was very fun. There really wasn't a "crowd" at the crater though. Perhaps from the shore of Maui it looks like alot of boats but they really are quite spread out.

The best snokeling we saw on Maui was at Ulua Beach. La Perouse was way too rough in November for us to take advantage of it then :(

What happened? I need to go lay down.
