Molokai House Rental
I have had many trips to the 4 major islands, but never to Molokai. Thinking of this rental:
www.themotherocean.com Anyone familiar with it, or the general area? We don't need much in the way of activities and excitement. A few scenic drives, a good book, a swim in the pool or ocean...that's our idea of a good time. |
Barbara,
I am also looking for a house on Molokai. Did you find any feedback on this property or others? I heard from one person that the swimming on the southern beaches is just ok. The bottom is muddy. I don't know how true this is. Thanks for sharing any info you might have. |
I didn't get any Fodor feedback on Mother Ocean. Here's what the caretaker says: "Swimming in the ocean is possible year round depending on the winds. We have a sandy bank in front of the house that extends at knee-depth for about 300 yards. Water deep enough to swim in extends beyond that. In the mid-day the currents usually pick up and it is too dangerous to swim."
I like ocean swimming, but am not a strong swimmer. We chose a place with a pool...just in case the ocean doesn't seem safe or appealing when we are there. |
Thanks for the update. Do you mind telling me where you found a place? So far, all the ones we like are already booked next February. The ones that are available seem a little rough. I've been going blind reading internet listings and reviews.

The one we are renting has it's own website. I posted a link in my first post, but here it is again:
www.themotherocean.com. It, and others, are also listed at www.homeaway.com.We're not going until March, but Mother Ocean appears to have February availability on its website. The owners live in California, however there are local caretakers who live next door. I spoke to them, and they were really nice. Made me feel more comfortable, since it is just my sister and I (two old ladies) going on this trip. |
