Mohawk Trail Advice Needed for this Week-End

We are trying to decide about taking a trip on the Mohawk trail, tomorrow or Sunday, out to Deerfield---close to 100 miles one way from our west suburban town---and do not want to do it if we are not going to see color. Any help from someone w/current info? All the foliage links that I have checked are somewhat vague.

According to this website color should be peak/near peak in that area this weekend. There is a report from yesterday
http://www.massvacation.com/scienceN...ll-foliage.php

I live farther north in Vt where foliage is definitely past peak. I was considering going down to the Deerfield area tomorrow and have seen other posts saying northern MA foliage is good now. I always like driving through Old Deerfield in the fall--a beautiful street. The hill towns of Conway, Ashfield on Rte 116 from South Deerfield should be nice. You could also drive to the top of Mt. Sugarloaf for the view out over the Pioneer Valley

I would definitely venture out this weekend. The weather is supposed to be perfect. The western Berkshires were at what I call peak yesterday. There is still a lot of green from later species like oak, but the maples were in full vibrant color, and ash/birch are already dropping leaves.

One rain/wind storm and all the maples will drop their leaves immediately. Some people call peak a little more change from green, but by that time you also get some bare trees. Now is perfect.

You can't beat a Sunday drive this weekend with the forecast for tomorrow.

Thanks from me for that info, guys. We will be in the area by next Thursday, and are really looking forward to having a week in New England! :)

Thanks to those who responded! OK, as I just got up today, it looks like we will plan it for tomorrow. Very good point about the havoc to the leaves that even one good rainfall will wreak....I was glad that my query helped you, elsie... :)

Indeed it did help me, socialworker! Nothing like beautiful Fall colors, is there? :)

It is absolutely gorgeous here in Southern New Hampshire--not far from the Deerfield area and the Mohawk Trail...

Ah you guys are making me jealous!!! Peak seems to be right on target for what I always thought of as the norm...my Dad's birthday, October 10. He always got a birthday visit from me no matter where I lived! :) I have lots of fond memories of super times with them, tromping around the Berkshires.

Watch out for that hairpin curve! :)

We won't be going quite all the way to the hairpin, but i remember it well from a foliage trip in days of yore!
