Moderate restaurants near Hotel Beacon in New York

I will be staying with friends this weekend at the Beacon on Broadway and 75th Street. Last year we ate at Ouest and Cesca following recommendations I received here. We are trying to eat in less expensive places this year, so I am looking for suggestions for midrange restaurants, possibly ethnic, in the neighborhood for our first night. Thanks for all suggestions.

What does mid range mean to you?

I like www.menupages.com for finding restaurants by location and price and for reading reviews.

More upscale than pizza and burgers, less expensive than the two places I mentioned, where main courses run in the high twenties and thirties. No exact price in mind, I will look at the menu of places people here may suggest and submit to the group for approval.

The Greek restaurant on the opposite side of Broadway between you and Fairway Market is fine for an inexpensive grill or sandwich.

This area reminds me a lot of Paris where you eat reasonably well at reasonable prices by walking around looking a menus.

That entire neighborhood is stuffed with a host of inexpensive/moderate restaurants of every possible ethnicity. Just take a quick look up and down Broadway, Amsterdam or Columbus.

Kefi gets good reviews for Greek. Not sure what you consider walkable but Gennaro at Amsterdam and 92nd is good.

Pasha for Turkish (71st between Columbus & Central Pk West)
Swagat for Indian (Amsterdam near 80th)
Grand Sichuan for Chinese (Amsterdam 74th-75th)
Nice Matin for French (Amsterdam & 79th)

agree with nytraveler - Kefi and Gennaro both very good - Gennaro is cash only.

One idea, under the helm of a very well respected Tuscan chef, in conjunction with an Italian salumi producer.

Amsterdam Ave. and 73rd Street.

Antipasti: $9 to $14; Pastas $14 or $15; meat second course: $12 to $17

We walked to this restaurant from The Beacon. We were six women celebrating a 60th BDay. It's French.

And the winner is...

Salumeria Rosi Parmacotto. We all loved it. Thanks again.

Can't wait to try that, Nikki. We stay at the Beacon often enough and hardly ever eat near there except for the Shake Shack for burgers and shakes and the little 'diner/coffe shop' adjacent to the hotel. The recommendations on this thread are really great.
