Moderate priced romantic NY long weekend

Can anyone suggest a good website for deals on a long weekend in NY? It looks like there are summer deals out there just by checking expedia, but is there anywhere else I should be looking? Christmas is more expensive, but what about early December?

What about a hotel in the upper west side? Any recomendations? Or should we be closer to Broadway? Mind you it didn't seem that far away when we stayed with friends in the west side years ago, we just took the subway.

Thanks for your help.

Early Dec. is probably a busy, expensive time too as it's just after Thanksgiving, the Xmas decorations are up (the tree at Rockefeller center gets lit the first week in Dec. I think), it's shopping season etc. People here like Quikbook.com for hotels although sometimes Expedia has better prices. At that time of year I think it would be preferable to stay away from midtown. Upper westside is good. Have stayed at the Lucerne. It's fine. On the Avenue looks good but have no personal experience. The Excelsior gets a good review here in Rants & raves I think & is across from the Museum of Natural History.

If you see a good price you acn check reviews here & on tripadvisor.com

If you really want a bargain why not try bidding on priceline.com. Check out bidding strategies & hotel options on biddingfortravel.com

The Christmas season begins officially the day after Thanksgiving. I do believe it is the most busy and expensive time of year to visit NYC. You will need to get those play tickets asap.
Good luck, it will be a fun time to visit:)

We just returned from our 2nd stay at the Broadway Inn on W 46th. It might meet your requirements- we're very happy with the price and I would call it "simple/romantic" if there's such a thing...

Thanks all! It's a long shot that we'll get to go, but I'm dreaming and scheming anyway :)

Actually, I'm not so sure that early December is that busy in New York! I know that theater tickets are not that difficult to get at that time.
I'd give it a try!

Check out the Starwood.com site --- they have great packages with their own hotels AND airfare.
Also, Quikbook.com.

I've been quite pleased with the Manhattan East suite properties. They recently changed the name of the group to Affinia - www.affinia.com. Several properties to choose from. The Dumont is nicely located away from the tourist fray with public transport and several restaurants nearby. Staff was quite pleasant and efficient, too.

Am very fond of the Excelsior and recently found a very good price on www.quikbook.com for them BUT it's pay-in-full upfront and nonrefundable. You might try plugging in a few dates at that website (not all are prepaid, but the best deals are) and scroll down to find Lucerne, Excelsior, etc.
