mobility scooters

I saw online there is a company that does tours of the monuments on scooters for people who can't walk that far. Have you seen them around or even better, used them???? Just wondering if that is the way to go for my mom (who is over 70). thanks!

Did you mean Segway Tours? I've heard of them but never taken one.

Assuming you mean Washington DC - I read that there is a company at or near the Old Postal Pavilion (across street from Federal Triangle Metro stop, corner Pennsylvania & ??) that rents motorized wheelchairs.

No, they are scooter tours for disabled and "mature" travelers. (aka: "old") You sit on them and I think they have 3 wheels.

gogoellen: I know exactly the type of 3-wheeled scooter you are talking about. My father uses one (he had a stroke). Has your mother ever used a mobility scooter? If she is comfortable operating one, I can't see why it wouldn't be an option for touring. They don't go very fast but you do need to have the ability to steer.

Can't answer your specific question, but previous poster hinted at an important detail - that is - "if your mother is comfortable using one". These things look simple, but do require some practice to use effectively and safely. If you get info you need, make sure she has some practice before the trip.
