Where is a good, but reasonable place to stay in Moab? Looking for something that feels local, not the BestWestern, but not a B&B either? Also, what rafting company can anyone suggest?

Just got back from Moab. I know you said no B&B but the DreamKeeper Inn - Tree Room is far better than any hotel.

We stayed at Dreamkeeper in May (also in the Tree Room). Reasonable, very clean, comfortable and within walking distance to main street with restaurants, shops.

I don't know what you expect that is better than a Best Western but not a B&B - at least not in Moab. We love Cali Cochita B & B. Very reasonable prices, great breakfasts, lovely & comfortable rooms and super clean.

Sorrel River Ranch Resort & Spa maybe??

If you are going July, peak tourist season, you may just have to take what you can get.

The Sorrel River is supposed to be very nice and some people like the Red Cliffs Lodge. Unfortunately both are about 30 minutes drive out of town.

Most accomodations in town are budget, travel motels, such as Motel 6. The Best Western in town is actually one of the nicer motels.

You might try the Gonzo Inn. About a block off Main, west. Definitely "local" and not a BW either!

I think everyone got the wrong message. I'm not upitty or looking for something grand, I'm looking for something one story with maybe a little yard to hang out in at the end of a day, like an off the beaten path inn or cute little motel type place,but clean, with a local feel to it, not a hotel feel. I was wondering if anyone knew much about the Inca Inn or Adventure Inn/Motel.

When we were there in 2002 we stayed at the Apache motel.That's the place John Wayne used to stay when they made movies in the vicinity.Quiet location, not far from the main street,nice pool.Paul

The DreamKeeper Inn has a nice size backyard, lots of trees with a pool and double person hammocks. Great to take a nap in at the end of the day.

Sorrel River Ranch, although it is a winding, 17-mile drive up the Colorado River from Moab!

None of the motels I can think of are single story or have "yards". You really are describing a B&B.

big of places to stay. but moab does fill up! last time i showed up in town w/o reservations in the summer, my only selection was the slickrock campground - fortunately i had my camping equipment with me...

but i really had wanted a soft bed that night. no such luck.... the list at the web site has a lot of options for you to investigate.

The Sunflower Inn in Moab, very nice, a B&B, I have stayed there twice, you can eat breakfast outdoors on the patio and a really nice family room type setting to chat.

We stayed at the Sunflower Inn this May and loved it. Great buffet breakfast and I don't generally like buffets.

Sorrel River Ranch is great, but a bit of a drive as others have said. It's also more expensive and might qualify more as a spa type of experience than a Best Western type of hotel stay. They have a great on-premise restaurant that overlooks the river. I know you said reasonable in price, but if it prices out at a small difference I would do it for a once-in-a-lifetime vacation.

While it's a drive from the town of Moab, you are very close to river rafting launches, so if that's on your agenda you may actually end up closer to some of your planned activities. I'll check my records to see what rafting company we used. I think I remember something about the guides having to be certified to raft the Colorado River, so make sure you confirm that. We also did some rock climbing using a company hired from town. My 8 year old son loved it and still talks about it. Consider doing that, if your budget allows and you're into that sort of thing.

I just checked - we used Canyon Voyages Adventure Company. They were good. Equipment was in good shape and guides were friendly and competent.

Red Cliffs Lodge is a little closer to Moab than Sorrel River Ranch. It is more casual, one story, with private patio/deck and yard right on the banks of the Colorado River. It has a kitchen, too. But it is a 20 - 30 min. drive out of Moab.
