Missouri weekend getaways?
I live in Kansas City, but have never really explored the State of Missouri. My husband and I are looking for an overnight trip somewhere in MO over Labor Day weekend. We're thinking smallish town with history & scenery. I'm pregnant, so no water sports or crazy outdoorsy stuff, which I think eliminates the Ozarks. Does anyone have any suggestions? We're really just looking for a nice getaway--not too expensive, but a nice B&B would be good.
Thanks! |
It's on the opposite side of the State, but how about St. Genevieve? They have several neat B&B's, and there's one that has a murder mystery theme. I can't recall the name, though. On the way, you could visit Johnson Shut-Inn's and Elephant Rocks State Parks (if it's hot, swimming at J.S.I. is really fun!)

How about Hermann? You won't be able to fully appreciate the wineries, but Hermann still has a lot to offer.

Sorry, I missed your comment about being pregnant and not wanting outdoor activities. But St. Genevieve is still a neat place.

what about St. Louis? I know it is not at all a small town, but there is so much to do and some very nice hotels and B&Bs.

Please don't eliminate the Ozarks - as a native, please let me tell you that there is SO much more to do than just outdoor things. Branson is a great option - you can go to shows, shop, etc in town. There are some great B&B's in the Branson Area, as well as all the chain hotels. Check out old downtown Branson - there is even a train ride you can take through the lakes area and into northern Arkansas. And my favorite - Big Cedar Lodge south of Branson. You can rent great little cabins overlooking the lake, and the restaurants are wonderful (especially Devil's Pool). You can golf, rent a boat and float around the lake, etc (lots of low-key outdoors activities). There is so much beauty in the Ozarks - very different than the KC area with all the forests and hills. Springfield is only about 3 1/2 hours from KC, and it's a very easy drive. If you have any more questions about the Ozarks, please let me know and I'll be glad to help in any way I can!
