missed flight
Have flight from LTU arriving in JFK from Germany-need to clear customs and then board a bluejet flight to boston. Have 40 minutes to go to terminal and clear cusoms and get flight. Can this be done?
No.
Flights from NYC to Boston leave almost hourly as does the train. Pick a flight with at least a 90 minute connection. |
Don't think so.
what penalties would i pay by just walking up and buying a tiket? I see jetblue has flights for $60, would i pay much more
if i missed the 4:40 flight they HAVE A 5:50 FLIGHT, WOULD THEY PUT ME ON THAT FLIGHT STANDBY FOR FREE?
are the terminals for LTU and Blue jet far apart?
LTU uses Terminal 4; jetBlue uses Terminal 6. The Airtrain goes between them, but with immigration, bag claim, customs, and security/bag check (if any) on jetBlue, there's no way.

On the Fodor Airlines board, there is at least one thread about the consequences of missing a flight like this. Not good. If both flights were booked on the same ticket through the same airline, they would put you on the next plane if your plane were delayed, but they would never let you book this tight a connection. As far as the second airline is concerned, you are a new passenger who arrived too late for your flight since you cannot possibly make the connection in 40 minutes. It will cost you to rebook on another flight, and if there happens to be no space, you will not get a seat.
You are arriving at the same time as a bunch of other european flights. Immigration will be mobbed and I doubt you will even have your luggage 40 minutes after landing. There is NO WAY you will make this flight. (Ad you might check the on-time arrival record for this flight.)
Schedule one at least an hour later. |
I would buy the JetBlue ticket at least TWO hours after your arrival and then pray for an on-time LTU arrival and a relatively quick (for JFK) customs experience.
If you MISS the JetBlue flight, the money you paid for the ticket is forfeited. Not worth the risk, IMHO.
Jet Blue's fares often go up the closer you get to your departure date, so don't expect to pay walk up and pay $60. Give yourself plenty of time (2 hours is probably more like it) and hope they'll let you on an earlier flight if there is space, or pay the $25 fee to change to an earlier flight. You forfeit your $ if you fail to change prior to departure.

Thanks all, I once missed my flight before and they (NW) just put me on next available-I sounds like this is not the case now or at least with BJ. We expect to have only carry on, but will book the flight that is one hour later. Thanks-All
If you are early you always have the option of walking up to the gate or checkin and trying to get on an earlier flight. If there are open seats, JB will seat you, as will just about any airline.
