Mirage or Treasure Island
 

Taking my son to Las Vegas for his 21st. I want to be mid-strip. A pool is important as we are going in August. The Mirage is more expensive than TI, but TI gets fairly good reviews on Trip Advisor. Will it be worth it to spend the extra money & stay at the Mirage?

I was more impressed with the Mirage when I was there in Nov. Walked thru both.

Is it worth it? That's a pretty tough question, depending upon the price difference, and what's important to you. To me, the Mirage is significantly nicer, but I'd be more than happy to stay at TI.

There's no precise definition of mid-Strip, but I'd say that TI is at the beginning of the North Strip. It's adjacent to the Mirage, but it's still a walk from the front of TI to the entrance of the Mirage. In the heat of August, this might matter to you.

The Mirage pool is one of the nicer ones in Las Vegas. The TI pool is pretty ordinary.

If the point is the room, when we stayed at the Mirage our room was fabulously decorated but I can't remember anything about the room when we stated at TI.

There are other mid-Strip hotels.

Mirage, for sure... one of the best pools in Vegas. I love hanging out at the Dolphin Bar and getting a Green Dolphin drink!!

Keep an eye out for special sales as August is usually a dead time for Vegas since it's so darn hot!! (but I will be there from August 5-10!!)

Elaine, please believe me...there are TOURISTS walking through every single hotel on the strip and the ones that aren't as "touristy" are the ones that look kinda non-glamorous from the outside. Who is running around looking cheap in the lobby is kinda irrelevant.

Thanks for the tips. I think I will bite the bullet & go with The Mirage because of the pool. Does anyone know if there will be lower rates at The Mirage than are posted now?

When we book in Las Vegas we always check up to the last minute to see if a lower rate is being offered and, if it is, we request the hotel to give us the lower rate--and they do.

You might want to check and see if they have Resort Fees too. I know TI does. Some hotels have cancellation fees too. Do your homework. Check out fatwallet.com and google the Las Vegas discount codes and see what you can find. tripres.com is one, there are others. I agree with others, if you are going for the pool, go to Mirage. If you are going to be out walking the strip and not in your room that much, both hotels will be fine. Have a great trip, drink lots of water in that heat!

Just returned from Vegas and as far as I recall, all of the main strip hotels except those belonging to the Harrah's group have a daily resort fee.

The Mirage and TI belong to the MGM group and most likely do have a resort fee.

Are you signed up on the hotel website yet? You usually get better rates that way, as well as checking sites like Broadway Box, and signing up for the Vegas newsletter.

Dh and I liked the Mirage, and had also stayed at TI twice. The pool at Mirage really makes the stay, plus LOVE is there, great places to eat and drink, etc. whereas TI's pool is awful! Horribly inadequate and no shade. Their rooms are okay, but I bet he would have much more fun at the Mirage pool.
I would spring for reserved chairs at the Mirage pool, and it's worth not having to line up, with 200 besuited towel cattle, clutching lattes, and looking like prize fighters at 8 am.

** Request a tower suite, if available, which they are usually nice to assign, if they have any. Mention your son's birthday, and tell them you are willing to wait awhile~! They are allowed to accept tips.

One more option, just a block (albeit a long block) off the strip, is the Platinum hotel. It has a pool on the 5th floor roof, big condo sized suites, for much less than a strip room, at half the size. Check their website and look at the photos.
My pals and I had a Princess suite, for 99 a night, last October. I called in-house reservations, you request them when you get the first ring-a-ling. Don't go to general ressies.
The bathrooms are wonderful, as well as the washer/dryer, deep soaking jetted tubs, separate shower, and full kitchen. It was quiet and relaxing, and roomy enough for three high maintenance, ageless beauties~

You can grab a cheap cab, or walk into Bally's rear entrance in minutes, if you want the crazy action. Remember to protect your feet, by changing shoes often, and bring band-aids. Have a great time! ((^))((y))
