Mirage, Monte Carlo, or Treasure Island?
 

My husband and I and two friends are going to Las Vegas for the first time in June and are looking at The Mirage, The Monte Carlo, and Treasure Island. We really would like somewhere with a nice pool and a nice room, but don't want to spend a ton of money. Any help would be appreciated!

If the pool is important, stay at the Mirage. It has one of the best pools in town. However, Treasure Island and Monte Carlo will likely be cheaper than Mirage. <BR>Mirage also just remodeled their rooms, I haven't seen them yet but apparently they are lovely (and they were nice before the remodel). Mirage has a great location as well -- you can walk to the Venetian, Paris, Bellagio, and there is a tram between Mirage and Treasure Island. <BR><BR>In case you're wondering, guests at Treasure Island cannot use the pool at the Mirage and vice-versa.

I just returned from LV and we took the tram from the Bellagio to the Monte Carlo.It was pretty dead there, I would definitely recommend Treasure Island or the Mirage.There is a lot going on there and you can walk across the street to the Venetian.

I didn't know there was a tram from Bellagio to Monte Carlo. When did that happen? Anyway, I would definitely eliminate Monte Carlo. Mirage and TI are better located and just more lively.

Don't outright knock the Monte Carlo. For some, like my Mom &Dad, they actually like being in a Strip hotel that is less hectic than some others. <BR><BR>If you want that, the Monte Carlo isn't actually a bad choice. However, if you want something a bit livelier and don't mind the lobby and public areas being a bit hectic, than Mirage or TI are better choices.

At the Bellagio -an employee told us that the goal is to make the strip and all the hotels accessible for people without having to walk across the streets.Actually, they are building these crosswalks that go over the strip and some of the newer hotels are putting in these trams to keep people moving withing the hotels.Works nicely for the hotels and must be a treat in August.

I'm assuming this is a follow up to your first post, and these are the hotels that are within the budget you are looking to spend.<BR><BR>Of the three, stay at the Mirage. The rooms may be non-descript, but the location is great, the pool is fantastic, and the service is good.

You're getting good advice. Stay at the Mirage, definitely not the Monte Carlo. Can you afford the Bellagio? If not, definitely go there for their dinner buffet!

I stayes at the Mirage last November for 4 days and just loved it. The rooms are very nice and clean and well decorated.The bed very comfortable which is not always the case at hotels. the bathroom was a little small but unless you plan to spend alot of time in there it was fine. You will love the pool. It is really unique. One of the nicest I've seen. The casino was also very nice but the slots were a littlr tight,but you are so central to everything there you can hit almost any casino tou would like within a short walk.The buffett was very good ...lots of variety and hot.I am going back to vegas in June myself but I'm staying at the Luxor this time. My daughter and son in law are staying at Mandalay Bay so we are staying there so we canbe close to them or I would have stayed at Mirage again in a heartbeat, Hope this helps. If anyone has info on the Luxor please let me know

Rita<BR>My husband and I stayed at the Luxor a few years ago and loved it. Try and get into the main part of the hotel not the towers as the piramid is so neat with the elevators at a 38 degree incline and the slanted walls. You will enjoy it. As with your daughter staying at the Mandalay Bay she is going to love it there as that is my favorite hotel and pool area. Try and get a strip view. With floor to ceiling windows the view is unforgetable. Have fun!!!

If going for luxury, stay at the Bellagio. If going for value, great location, great rooms, stay at the Flamingo.<BR><BR>The Flamingo's rooms are equal to Treasure Island, Mirage, Monte Carlo and usually at half the price. Also, Flamingo as an AWESOME location.<BR><BR>Just my 2 cents. Others are sure to feel differently.

Soorry jpm, but your info is out of date.<BR>Flamingo's rooms are nowhere near as nice as Treasure Island and Mirage, since these two just finished extensive overhauls.<BR>Flamingo seems to have been cast adrift by owners. In serious need of some TLC, but none seems to be on the way.

Hey Rog, I was at Treasure Island last week and Flamingo about two months ago. I couldn't tell any difference between their rooms (except TI was $50 more).

Kristin, I'm not sure how long ago Roger was there, but my husband and I stayed at the Flamingo September of 2001 and the place was super. JPM was right, the location can not be better - it's right in the middle of the strip, the room we had (a suite just for asking) was great as was the maid service and all public areas including the pool were very clean and well maintained. The buffet breakfast is definitely worth the money and the casino was very good. IMHO. Good luck!
