Minnesota summer vacation
 

Anyone know of a good area to vacation in Minnesota with kids in the summer months? We are looking to rent a place on a lake no more than 6-7 hours from Chicago. Any thoughts?

Alexandria is around 8 hours from Chicago. We loved it there...lots of beautiful paved bike trails and lovely parks and lakes. The town is small but quaint.

Elbow Lake near Waubun is really, really nice. They have some resorts which are wonderful for families. Kids can fish, there are playgrounds, it's close to Bemidji too so they can see Paul Bunyon. I would go there again in a heartbeat.
