minneapolis mn.

We are 2 young seniors (females) coming for the Monday night football game on Oct 5. We will get there on Sunday morning the 4th about 10:30 and we will leave Tuesday the 6th around 3:30 in the afternoon. I know this is short notice, but does anyone have a good suggestion for a hotel (most seem to be sold out). We also would like to know what things we might be able to see or do this time of year for the length of time we have. We are open to almost anything and don't mind driving to get there.

Which hotels have you looked at?

The light rail runs from the Mall of America to the Metrodome, lots of hotel options down by the mall if you haven't looked there. That would be easier than driving and finding parking on game day, although the light rail will be packed.

We live in Memphis, Tn. We are school teachers and one of my friend's students is on the Vikings team. We are coming to see him. Could we drive to the game, or would that be a big problem? We thought we might see some leaves changing, perhaps a nice drive around some of the lakes, is it too early for that? I have looked at the hotels downtown on the travel sites. Thanks for your help!

I stayed at the Homewood Suites Mall of America last year when there for a Twins game. Nice hotel. Easy drive to Minneapolis. Parking is tight near the dome but definitely possible or take the Light Rail into downtown

There isn't much fall color yet, will be somewhat improved by the weekend but peak is at least a week or more off in the Cities. I'd suggest focusing on exploring the city rather than trying to find fall color. A walk around any of the lakes is nice if we have good weather. Calhoun and Lake of the Isles are right by Uptown - I prefer Isles as there are a lot of nice houses surrounding it, so more to look at than Calhoun. Calhoun is great for people watching.

I wouldn't drive to the metrodome- either take the light rail, or if you're ok walking, you can park elsewhere in the city (in a garage or something) and walk. There are always hoardes of purple-jersey'ed vikes fans walking through downtown Mpls to the game (even in December) and the city is compact.

Check out the Walker Art Gallery and the Sculpture Garden while you're there!

BTW prepare yourselves for some rowdiness at the game - Vikings/Packers games are always intense, and now that we have Farve.....

This is one Packer fan who hopes Farve does well. You Vikings are lucky to have him.

The game is going to be so exciting Monday night.

I'm actually a Packers fan, have been since 1968. I hope Brett plays great, but I hope the Packers win! Thanks to all of you who have sent me your suggestions.
