Minneapolis Airport Train to Downtown Question

It looks like there might be a fast and efficient train to Nicollet Mall area/warehouse district.

Is there much distance between airport baggage pick up and this departure station? Is it easy user? In other words, can you buy 1 way fares easily?

This is the first time I am considering not taking a taxi. It looks like the train might be just as easy.

EXPERIENCE?? Thanks!

Object destination: Millenium Hotel Downtown

The light rail is connected to the main MSP terminal (Lindberg) and is easy to access via the airport tram service. Once in downtown Minneapolis you will have to take a taxi from the lightrail stop on 5th Street to your hotel, which is on 13th and Nicolette Mall -- not too far. If you don't have luggage, you could easily hop on the Nicolette Mall bus to 13th.

These web sites should help you plan.

We're big taxi users and generally take a taxi from airports to downtown. The one exception was Minneapolis. We had one wheeled carry-on each and arriving at our hotel with the Airport light rail was a snap.

I do remember a good deal of walking through the airport terminal, but once we got on the light rail, we were whisked into downtown in about 20 minutes as I recall. Our hotel was only 2 blocks from the downtown station so we were able to walk right to the hotel which was the Westin, which I can't say enough good things about. The lobby was an old art deco bank, and the rooms were pristine.

We also used the light rail to get us to a Twins game the evening we arrived and again a couple of days later to get us to the Mall of America.

TC and Frank. THANK YOU!

I had just printed that hiawatha line #55 map before I asked. Looking at it, it seemed that it would not be difficult.

TC, I truly appreciate all the links. And I am looking forward to being there very soon.

Frank, I'm sure we will get to Mall of America on it too, just as you did.

I do remember a good deal of walking through the airport terminal

Frank and JJ5, You shouldn't have to do that much walking at the airport although one can if you aren't used to the layout. Once you retrieve you luggage in the baggage claim area, follow the signs for ground transportation. That will take you down one level -- using the escalator is the fastest and easiest if your luggage will fit. Follow the carpeted hallway to the right until you hit a tile floor and see the Delta check-in counters. Once on the lowest level, walk straight ahead past the information desk (you can ask for help there if you need) to the tram stop. The airport tram will take you to the lightrail station.
