Mini Honeymoon in Philadelphia
Hi All,
SInce you have been very helpful in the past... I decided to reach out for help with my mini honeymoon in Philadelphia! We are staying at the Loews Hotel and so far we have Buddakhan booked. We love Stephen Starr restaurants. Any other Stephen Starr restaurants that we MUST not miss? Also, any other ideas of things we should do while visiting Philly? I know one day we will go to the Magic Gardens. Maybe another day a spa treatment at the Loews Hotel. But, we are looking for other activities, nightlife suggestions, to make our mini honeymoon extra special! We are 31 and 35. Thanks so much! |
There's a great comedy club in Philly, Helium. You might enjoy that one night. I would also book brunch at Talula's Garden. It's pretty and the food is very good (Stephen Starr is a partner in this venture.) If you are a Top Chef fan, we have quite a few restaurants started by winners and other alumni, the best being Laurel (chef Nick Elmi) on E Passyunk. It's a hard reservation to get but well worth it.
When is the mini honeymoon? |
When will you be here?
|
Thank you so much! These are great suggestions!
We will be arriving May 27th and staying at the Loews for 3 nights. |
JUESnyc, you have to trust me on this...cancel that Loews reservation and book the spa room at the Palomar. You will not be sorry. You can add a romance package.
I always listen to Suki when it comes to restaurants and I've always heard great things about brunch at Talula's but my daughter and I were very disappointed when we went in March. The menu is very interesting but the quality was subpar. My strata was over cooked and the frittata was not good. It may have been just an off day in the kitchen, but I won't go back. I've enjoyed the brunches I've had at FARMiCia and Garces Trading Co. Parc, a Starr, has a nice breakfast. If you like boubons, the restaurant at the Lowes has good food and offers bourbon flights. Have you been to the Mutter? The Barnes? |
Are you interested in any of the historical sights or museums? I know that isn't very exciting on a honeymoon. :)
|
Sorry to hear that about Talula's Garden, Birdie. I haven't been there for brunch in over a year, but it still gets really great reviews on yelp so maybe you did just hit it on a bad day.
|
I was bummed, Suki. We had wanted to try it for years. Plus, it's not cheap. I don't think I'll give it another chance, there are too many good places still on my list to try.

You'll be here for the Chinese Lantern Festival on Franklin Square! I've only seen it during the day as I haven't been down since it officially opened, but it was pretty cool even unlit. http://www.historicphiladelphia.org/...nternfestival/
Philadelphia is a great city for walking, and a walk up the Parkway to the Rodin Museum should be lovely that time of year. (And the Rodin isn't too much museum at once... :) ) Don't forget the Reading Terminal Market for delicious browsing and Capogiro for gelato. Have a lovely time! |
Hi all,
Thank you so much for your great suggestions! We ended up getting a great rate at the Loews Hotel, but definitely want to try the Palomar hotel next time in Philly. We had an amazing time and I will post a trip report this week with all the amazing things we did. |
Thank you for checking back in. We love to hear how things turned out.
|
Can't wait to hear about your visit to Philadelphia.
