Milwaukee Restaurants

Anyone have any great restaurant suggestions for Milwaukee? We like Mexican, Italian,
Steaks, Continental cuisine. Where can we
find some really delicious food for reasonable prices?

For Mexican, La Fuente is our favorite! Many other people enjoy La Perla.

Lake Park Bistro is supposedly good. . .

Bartolotta's for Italian

Balistreri's for Italian. Don't bother with Bartolotta's--it's not what it used to be (IMHO). For steaks, Eddie Martini's, hands down, but it's expensive and rather stuffy. For a Rat Pack Era steak joint, try Coerper's Five O'clock Club. My favorite Mexican is Cempazuchi--great Margarita's! For a casual bistro, you've got to try Coquette Cafe. Enjoy!

Thanks for the suggestions. We are looking forward to trying out some of the suggested places on your visit in late Sept.

I heard that Milwaukee was famous for
"brats." Also, heard Kenosha has better brats. Anyone know about that?

Anyone have any opinion about Vivo, Tess
or Emperor of China?

The best brats are cooked on my grill at a tailgaiter at Miller Park. If you must buy them at a restaurant, try Mader's at lunchtime. Bring a travel cooler and take some home from the Usingers outlet on Old World Third Street.
As for your named restaurants, Tess gets good reviews. I've never heard of the other two.

I had dinner at Tess (on Bartlett Street)and it was fabulous. The service was outstanding. If the weather is nice, ask for a table outside. Vivo is ok. For Mexican, I would try Botanas--it's better than La Fuente. Cempazuchi on Brady Street has the best margaritas in town but I wasn't impressed with the food. For a continental menu, you might want to try Roots in the Brewers Hill neighborhood . Great food and a wonderful view of downtown Milwaukee. For steaks, Eddie Martini's is the best.

We just got back from our trip to Milwaukee. We ate Mexican food at La Fuente's. It was really quite good, and reasonably priced.
We tried the German food at Mader's. I was NOT impressed. The rolls were so hard that I was afraid I would break a tooth! The food was what I would call ordinary. The waitress was busy with a big group and not that attentive. I would not recommend this restaurant.

Glad you liked La Fuente-- we always make a point to eat there when we're back "home" in MKE! :)

We had dinner last week at Polaris, the revolving restaurant on top of the Hyatt in downtown Milwaukee. The view was incredible, the food was surprisingly good, and the prices were not out of line--entrees varied from $9.99 to around $25. We liked it so much that we returned for dinner during the week when we came back to Milwaukee.
