Milwaukee hotels

Trying to plan a weekend getaway with my sister to see Lollapalooza in Milwaukee. I assume that a hotel in downtown Mil would be the most convenient as we probably won't have a car. The concert is at the Marcus Amphitheater. Any hotel suggestions?

juinmi,
You may want to consider the Hotel Metro or the Wyndham. The Pfister is a good choice if you are looking for a large full service hotel.

Joe,
From doing some preliminary searches, it appears that many of the downtown hotels have limited/no vacancies. Would a hotel by the airport be too far from the Amphitheater? And would a cab or public transit be easier?

juinmi,
Unfortunately the weekend of Lollapalooza Milwaukee has several major events tying up hotel space downtown. The Great Circus Parade, Bastille Days, and The Greater Milwaukee Open PGA golf tournament all occur over that week-end. It would be a lot of fun if you could find an accomodation downtown - particularly east of the Milwaukee River. I'm sure these places are booked but you could try the Astor Hotel or County Clare (small bed & breakfast place). If you already have concert tickets you might want to make a reservation at an airport hotel - otherwise you might end up well out of town. A cab would be better than public transportation although the airport hotels may have shuttles to downtown.

Thanks for all the info Joe. I made reservations at the Astor. Sounds like it is in a really happenin' spot :)

juinmi,
The Astor - That's great! You'll be in an excellent location. You will be in walking distance of the Marcus Amphitheatre. Bastille Days is a big street festival that you can walk to as well. There is a great bar/restaurant right down the street from the Astor called "The Knick."They serve lunch, dinner and late night. Plus they have a nice brunch on week-ends. If you are looking for more upscale dining there is a place next door called Osteria del Mondo - excellent. Also you will be only a few blocks away from the new Callatrava designed art museum which is stupendous. You will have a great time.
