We are scheduled to stay here in late June 2010. But, we just heard that the noise level from the World Trade Center Rebuild makes the hotel extremely loud and uncomfortable. Is this true or perhaps was that simply coming from a person with very sensitive ears?

I would guess it depends on which side your room faces, how high up you are and how sensitive your ears are. Apparently they do provide earplugs and even noise machines but if you're a light sleeper and can change the reservation, you might be better doing that. Just to warn you, marsham, there can be construction noise almost anywhere in Midtown Manhattan, but I've yet to find a building site that got going much before 7am or continued past 6. I can't imagine construction would keep you awake at night so that you'd require earplugs, though it might wake you up early.

New York is a busy city and you can get police or fire sirens at any time of day and night. also commercial carters (trash collectors for businesses vs residential) are required to pick up in the middle of the night to avoid disrupting traffic. So - if you have sensitive ears you should get a room in a modern high rise hotel and stay on a high floor. And accept that any nearby construction will start at 7 am.

I'm used to it - and sleep right through it all. Although in the country I find all those birds tweeting at break of dawn incredibly irritating (why can;t they sleep until 9?).

If you're a light sleeper bring earplugs and ask for a room away from any construction.

There is mention in one review of jackhammers at 6 am. If you're a light sleeper and like to sleep late, it's not where I'd stay. While it's true you can find noise anywhere, that's really a noisy option not to mention inconvenient with all the construction in the area.
