Milford Plaza, NYC ????
A friend suggested staying at the Milford Plaza in NYC, said it was safe and decent and great location(W. 45th). Anyone stayed here? How was it? safe? decent rooms?

The only thing good about that place is the location. The hotel itself is a dump. You can do much better for the same price. Try hoteldiscount.com or quikbook.com. If you want to get a really good deal, while sacrificing the exact choice of hotel, then use Priceline, but consult biddingfortravel.com first. Using Priceline you'd get a 4 star hotel for less than the price of the Milford Plaza, which in my experience is a 2 star at best.

What Thomas said.

IMHO it would be quite a stretch to call the Milford Plaza "decent". Not crazy about the area it's in, either. It's safe enough, but you could do much better.

There are many other affordable properties in the city. The Milford is not that great, and I would feel uneasy walking back to it late at night. West 45th is fine, but you are a little too far west and the area looks run down and seedy. Heed Thomas's advice and check into quickbook.com or Priceline. Let us know if you need help with your choices.

Flight attendants for UAL had to stay there. They call it the MILDEW Plaza!

Don't if you don't have to.

Best Western President is on 48th and 8th. Same price, much nicer place and better area. We felt totally safe @ night and were right around the corner from Times Square...but far enough away so that it was quiet.

There are a few spots along 8th and 9th Ave in that stretch (the mid to upper 40's) that LOOK a little seedy and late at night you may even see a few unsavory looking characters (for what it matters.... you'll see such types in nearly anmy neighborhood of the city and at various times of day). Looks can be deceiving - that stretch of 8th and 9th Ave now has many. Many restaurants and cafes that are open late and lots of pedestrian traffic. Don't be concerned about staying in that neighborhood for reasons of personal safety (my opinion based on personal experience) but the Milford is not a good choice for all the reasons already outlined.

Topping for the man who is planning his honeymoon. Please do not make your reservations at this location. For the same amount of money you can ge ta cleaner room in a better location.

I wouldn't make 5the hotel my first choice but all thosde who denigrated the area don't know what they are talking about.. The hotel is on the east side of 8th Avenue between 44th Street and 45th Streets. At least ten Broadway theaters are located on 44th and 45th between Broadway and 8th. There are so many people on both streets from 10 to 11 pm you can hardly walk. Safety is the least of your concerns.

I think for the poster this was toppped for (the honeymoon person) the point that is trying to be made is the HOTEL is kind of gross . . . not the location, which could very well be "do-able"

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES STAY IN THE MILDEW PLAZA!
I stayed there back in July, a friend of my wife had stayed previously and recommended the place, so like a fool I didn't do my homework. I booked two rooms and was embarrassed on seeing what a dump I'd booked us into. The rooms are tiny, gloomy, badly and decorated with no light. The staff on reception are idiots and rude too. On my first morning I witnessed the biggest row I've seen in the small restaurant in the lobby, the end result being a waiter nearly had a fight with a customer. The location is great, that's all I can say apart from DO NOT STAY IN THIS DUMP. |
Yikes!!!!! I booked two rooms at the Milford late this month as I had heard they did a major re-do last year.
If it's not too late I might try to change the reservations but has anyone stayed there since the remodeling so that I can know if in fact it is still more or less the same as what the other poster's experienced? |
