Have not stayed there Louise but it does get terrible reviews. Have a look on Tripadvisor. I am sure you can do better.

For that length of time I would suggest staying out of the Times Square area. You can be just about anywhere that is near a subway entrance and there are much nicer areas than T.S.

What are your dates, and what is your budget? You can probably do better than MP for both quality and location. And if it's under major renovation, it may be extra noisy (the area is noisy enough).

bwino recently enjoyed a long stay at the new Staybridge Suites. Have you checked their rates? Free breakfast, wifi, kitchen in the room, very very nice new hotel.

First, for the length of time I would get away from Times Square- which can be exciting to people not used to large cities - but overall is quite unpleasant - and not better situated for major sights than many other areas of the city.

Second, Milford Plaza has an awful reputation - and a major renovation would make it even worse in terms of service and atmosphere.

If you tell us budget, time of year and number of guests people can make much better recos.

The “Lullabuy of Broadway” otherwise known as the Milford Plaza hotel may be taking a longer nap than it had planned.

The Times Square property on Eighth Avenue and 45th Street closed on Dec. 12, 2009 for a major renovation that was expected to be completed in October 2011. But last month, its owner, the Seymour Milstein family, decided to suspend its renovation plan indefinitely.

The 1,301-room property sorely needs a renovation. Travel blogs and Web sites are rife with negative comments from travelers who have stayed there and found the hotel shabby and lacking amenities.

Try the Beacon, Lucerne, or Excelsior. There's also the Milburn, which many like and many confuse with the Milford.

For a long stay like this, I'd look for a place with a kitchenette. Radio City Apartments might do for you if you want to stay in the Times Square Area, but it's incredibly popular.

Take a look at their website. It's a very nice option with kitchenette and would be a great base for a long trip.

The Milburn also has kitchenettes.

The Mildew Plaza has finished a superficial sprucing up of its lobby, i.e. they added another silk plant somewhere, but it's still the same old dump. What was it about the Plaza that apppealed: price? location? size of room? etc.

An apart-hotel would be great for an extended stay; you've gotten good recommendations at all different price points. What do you think of the suggestions so far?

I agree - stay somewhere out of the Times Square area. I stayed at the Milford about 5 years ago and was not impressed. I much prefer staying on the Upper West Side or in the Financial District.

I visit Milford Plaza 5 year ago with my friends,i really like its service and its staff member are very helpful to us.

The last time I stayed at the Milford Plaza I stayed there strictly because it was a great deal. I felt that I got what I paid for in the actual room. It was very small, two twin beds, a basic TV and dresser. It was clean, and I felt safe. However, the bathroom was bad. When I turned on the water in the sink the pressure was very high and water splashed everywhere. In addition, it was very difficult to get a good safe temperature. The water was either too cold or scalding hot. I would stay at the hotel again if the price was right, but not if I was with picky people and not if I could get somewhere else for a similar price.

I know the OP seems to have vanished, but the Milford Plaza, I remember it well. I stayed there in 2005 on my first visit to NYC. Small, aged rooms. Old carpet. It was one flickering light bulb from charging by the hour. And i think they were claiming they were refurbishing it back then? But hey it’s not the worst location, central to theatres, great places to eat, but there definitely are belter places in its price range. No matter where you stay, NYC is accessible, hospitable and fun dont let the hotel room define your experience.
