MidWest (WI & IL) Camping Recommendations Needed!

Does anyone know of any good campgrounds in the southern Wisconsin or Northern Illinois area? I've been to Clements in Indiana but looking for something new to try and I'm not from the area...ideally no more than a 2-3 hour drive!

Also it'd be great to have a lake or river nearby for canoeing, kayaking, tubing, etc. and not packed with young families. Nothing against them, but my friends and I are kid-less. :)

Thanks!

I think camping has great appeal for families, so I'm not sure how easy it will be to find a camp ground without them.

When you say no more than a 2-3 hour drive, where is that from?

Friends who camp love Devil's Lake in Baraboo, WI, but that may be too far from you.

Check out Gov. Dodge State Park in Southern WI. We went with another family and reserved a "group" camp site - so we had lots of privacy and really felt like we were on our own (but not really). Nice beach and hiking, too. Have fun!

In Wisconsin:

Devil's Lake State Park (nice lake with large swimming beach at the north end)

or

Wildcat Mountain State Park (canoe the nearby Kickapoo River).

if you don't have your own canoe or raft, you are better off finding a reputable company that you can take a rafting or canoeing trip. These can be really fun to do. Then ask them which campgrounds are nearby and are quieter. They will likely know the area well.

If you really want/need to stay in N Illinois/Southern Wisconsin try to Google Lake Geneva area for Wisconsin or Galena area in Illinois,

but if you really want to camp in a wonderful; state park, try Warren Dunes SP in Michigan. No more than 90 minute ride from Chicago, right on Lake Michigan, sand dunes, wine country, great restaurants up and down the main road outside of the park.
