Midtown to Yankee Stadium -- Approx. time?

I have found several posts on how to get to Yankee Stadium, but I am wondering what time I will need to leave to get there. We are seeing a 7:05 pm game on a Friday and will be staying Midtown East near Grand Central Station. We will be taking the subway.

It'll probably take you about a half hour. So leave around....6 or earlier? If you want to get there a good bit before the game for food and the like.

Also, if you wanted to, you could take the Metro-North from Grand Central - it'll take about half the time, albeit for about $7

If you want to see anything you need to be there much earlier than that. Monument Park closes 45 minutes BEFORE the game and the line to see it can take a while. Also it takes a while to get into the stadium due to the security checks. I would plan on being there by 5 pm if you want to see the Stadium and perhaps a little of batting practice.

A agree with nytraveler, leave midtown around 5:00 via the #4 Train from the westside or the D/B train from the Eastside.
There are lots of shops under the elevated tracks near the "old" stadium...souvenirs, libations, and sandwiches.

Do not bring a backpack with you, as they will require you to leave it behind...and they do not checks bags for you.

The "new" stadium is a virtual museum of Yankee artifacts and tradition. Monument Park is wonderful but crowded and time constrained. Their is a real museum with hundreds of baseballs sign by every Yankee player..including Ruth, Gehrig et al... Have a great time.

"4 Train from the westside or the D/B train from the Eastside."

That should read "4 Train from the east side or the D/B train from the west side."

Personally, I'd leave by 5:30 at the latest and plan on getting to the Stadium by 6. With clearing security, crowds, etc., it's not unreasonable to take 30 minutes or more to get into your seat. If you get there by 6:30 you'll have plenty of time before the game to scope out the new digs and the exhibitions.

As you haven't been to the Stadium before I might even suggest you consider getting there when the gates open to visit Monument Park.

From the Yankee website:

"Monument Park
Monument Park, a museum in and of itself, recognizes former Yankees greats. On game days, it opens with the gates and remains accessible until 45 minutes prior to the game start time (subject to capacity limitations). Signage directs guests to Monument Park. Yankee Stadium staff is also available to assist guests."
