Midtown NYC on a Budget - great suggestions/ideas here

For those heading to NYC and trying to stretch your $$$, check this out. Some specific suggestions and other good ideas from a reliable "frugal" blogger and NYTimes regular. He has lots of frugal ideas for other cities as well, but he lives in NY and knows his stuff!

A lot of the comments are solid, some should be taken with caution as the posters reliability "might" be less certain than to author's blog.

I think the go downtown idea is a good one - but go uptown is just as good an idea - esp if you head to the upper west side - from 70's up to Columbia and even further.'

Tons of reliable not expensive hotels, many dozens of inexpensive restaurants of almost every possible ethnicity and great public transit.

It is weird that Upper West Side ids left out, isn't it?

Good article. The author is saying a lot of the stuff that is said on this board - despite the continual criticisms. ;)

<i>"The best way to save money in Midtown is to spend more time downtown — advice many a New Yorker has foisted upon visiting friends. But I spend enough time in other people’s cities to know that certain zones get tagged as tourist traps for a reason: they have attractions worth seeing. Such is the case in the heart of Manhattan."
