Middlebury visit....ideas?
Dropping my daughter off at Middlebury for the summer. Any ideas of how to spend a June weekend in the area? Great places to stay? Visit? Eat? All suggestions welcome!! Thanks!

I you mean Middlebury VT, we enjoyed the Dog Team Restaurant. Shelburne Museum is very interesting and could take more than a day. Spend the day in Burlington and have lunch someplace on Church Street. You could also make a day trip over to Quechee and lunch at Simon Pierce or someplace in Woodstock. There's also the Billings Farm Museum. It's a beautiful time of year in Vermont. Check a schedule of events.

Hey there,
Middlebury is great. Visit the Morgan Horse Farm just north of the College. Drive up to the Robert Frost Interperative Trail on Route 125. It's a nature trail with quotes from Frost's poems posted along the trail. Visit the shops downtown. The Sheldon Museum right in town is nice. It's a Vermont History musuem and they are doing a large exhibit about John Deere this summer. The Otter Creek Brewery is north of town on Exchange street. As for restaurants....for lunch go to Eat Good Food in Vergennes (about 15 minutes north). For dinner our favorites are the Bobcat Cafe in Bristol (also 15 minutes away), American Flatbread (in the Marble Works in town), Fire & Ice, and Two Brother's TAvern. For breakfast and/or lunch go to Steve's Park Diner. As for places to stay....there is a new Marriott Courtyard just south of town. In East Middlebury is the Waybury Inn, which is the Inn that was used in the opening sequence of Newhart. Right in town is the Inn on the Green and the Middlebury Inn. All are very nice. Have fun! |
Hey bm, thanks for the tip on the John Deere exhibit. My DH will be thrilled and it's so much closer than Molene. The diner you recommended might be the one we went to, very good.

John Deere is orginally from Middlebury, so the exhibit is fitting.
Here is the website. If you click Calendar, there is some info on the exhibit. It runs through October. http://www.henrysheldonmuseum.org/ |
A second for dinner at the Dog Team Tavern. We favored the Middlebury Inn-a little old but the real thing.Consider visiting Mt. Independence for a little, lite, history lesson. And I thought Ethan Allen made furniture.
