middle name on passport/ticket
Hi, I recently submitted passport renewl with my full name "first 1st-mid 2nd mid last", but I booked my NY-HK Cathay Pacific flight ticket in my first-last name only. I did contact my travel agent to put a notation on the airline reservation system to state my full name, and I have also spoken with a Cathay reservation rep to confirm that my full name does indeed exist in their system.
But I'm still a little worried, my departure is on 10/23 and right around election time, I'm sure the security will be extra tight, would I still have problem despite all the precautions I have doen so far? Thanks! |
I'm confused. Your passport is in your name and your ticket is in your name but you passport includes your middle name? Is that it? I don't see a problem.

Yes. My full name is on my passport which include 2 middle names. The ticket is only showing First and Last name, no middle names. I'm worried I might have to pay $175 for the ticket reissuance fee and even with that, I won't be able to put my entire 2 middle names on it because they won't fit the space!

Call the airline for confirmation but as long as your first and last name is on the ticket and passport, it shouldn't be an issue.

I travel internationally about twice a year. My passport has the name on my birth certificate plus married surname. My tickets always just say first name and last name (no middle name or maiden name). Never, never an issue at all.

Similar question as the thread "Newlywed Name Problem"
http://www.fodors.com/forums/pgMessa...p;tid=34506064 I wrote to TSA & posted their reply, which basically said there are NO TSA rules, just that the airline must be able to ascertain you are who you claim to be. It sounds like you can, even if the middle name(s) were omitted from the tkt. |
The only place I have run into trouble is getting frequent flier credit if the name on the ticket doesn't exactly match the name under which a person is registered in the FF program. My son and husband have the same first and last names, but different middle names. My son goes by his middle name. I think we bought tickets under his middle name, but had previously registered him in the United Airlines FF program under his first name and middle initial. It was a real hassle to straighten that situation out. Since it was RT from Colorado to Hawaii, it was worth a lot of miles.

Bogus! Who puts their full name on an airline reservation, even going international? Of course the passport shows the full name. So.....?
|
clairenj, we have now reached the point in the festivities when those Fodorites who consider yours a dumb question begin to abuse you for asking it in the first place. Ignore them. Security these days is always worrisome, but I think you can stop worrying about the name situation, as it is very, very common and shouldn't cause any trouble for you. Happy Trails!

I don't think you will have a problem. My passport has my middle name, but I NEVER use it on tickets or anything else, and I've never had even a question about it.
|
You will not have a problem. I never give the airlines my middle name. Don't worry about it.
