Middle Atlantic 4th of july
We are looking for a place for 4th of july fun. Looking old fashioned type of place- parade, fireworks, picnic dinner on village green.Etc Does a place like that exist?
We live in NJ .We would be willing to drive 5 hours or so. Any ideas? Thanks Melissa Melissa |
Williamsburg offers a very authentic 4th of July experience. There isn't a true parade but the reading of the Declaration of Independence from the courthouse steps, Fife & Drum parades, and shooting of cannons. There is a cake and ice cream social with live music in Wren yard across the street from Colonial Williamsburg and great fireworks that night.

Can't agree more with Birdie that Williamsburg is a great place to be on the 4th.

I would agree that Williamsburg would be great but it's a long drive, depending on where you are in NJ.
A closer option might be Bethany Beach, in Delaware. You can rent just about any kind of house, townhouse, or condo in the area - if they are still available, and I would think they would be. It is much more small town-ish than surrounding beach areas. |
Does Bethany Beach have fourth of juy events; such as parades, fireworks??

Yes, a place like that certainly exists! It's the town of Bar Harbor, Maine. (Acadia National Park is also there and is beautiful.) We were there for the 4th of July several years ago. It was one of the best days we have had on a vacation. It has all of the things you are talking about. We started the day in the community park with a blueberry pancake breakfast. I believe it was sponsored by the Kawanis club (or something like that.) Then it was off to the parade. It was fabulous! After that it was back to the park for a lobster lunch. I will never forget the site of seeing hundreds of families sitting on the ground eating fresh steamed lobster. They had activities for the kids too. That night we saw fireworks. It was the most special day that we still talk about!

We're in nearby Rehoboth, where we do have fireworks, but no parade. Here's some links to show you some of what goes on in Bethany:
