Midcoast Maine in May
 

Although this will be our third trip to the midcoast area, we are interested in recommendations for restaurants within driving distance of Camden. But, more importantly, we are seeking suggestions for interesting places to photograph that are beyond the usual tourist designations. We have visited many of those places during our past two visits, We would appreciate any help Mainers or those familiar with the area could offer.

Highly recommend "Maine, An Explorer's Guide".

A recent Boston Globe travel article said Belfast has some great restaurants with unusual menus. Have you been to the Cellar Door Winery in Lincolnville? They use the view of their vineyard from the barn window on their wine label. Beautiful but not your typical Maine photo. Have you been to Bay Path?

To djbooks: We have a copy of the 1998
"Explorers Guide" and found that very helpful. We use that as our primary resource. By the way, dj, you are one of my favorite responders. I suspect you are a librarian or educator; but whatever your calling, you are very well-informed, and I find your responses most interesting. As far as Lincolnville, we have been to the Lobster Pound, not the Winery, but will add that to our "must see places". I have no idea what Bay Path is, so please send more details, dfrostnh. Yes, we did see the article on Belfast, and, in fact, I clipped it to bring along on our trip. Thanks for the info.

Sorry, I had the name wrong. It is Bayside, a community of summer cottages built in the late 1800s near Camden.

My husband is not a reader but he loves the Squires Farm series which is out of print. I located some books on the antiquarian bookshops website so we could buy them when we stayed in Searsport. There's a lot more to Maine than the coast. You might visit Leonard's Mills Logging Museum (near Bangor) or the Cole Transportation Museum. Take a look at photos of the Lombard Log Hauler.
