Mid Town East Hotel NYC
Help .. ! Can anyone recommend a hotel in Mid Town East close to the hospital ... Am heading there mid June and want to stay in a nice hotel but don't want to spend $300 if possible .. Can anyone suggest a hotel in the $150 to low $200's price range including parking .. Much appreciate your help .. !
Try Beekman Tower from Affinia.
Try some of the websites like www.orbitz.com, www.hotels.com and www.expedia.com. Finding a hotel in that area with parking for that rate is going to be very difficult to find. Do you have to have the car in the city?
We will be driving down from Boston .. so the answer is yes .. We usually stay at the Millenium Hilton and they have a package that includes parking for about $200 or less .. but that is really too far from where we need to be this time ...
Sorry - The Beekman in June runs about $300 per night, including tax and parking. Which hospital are you talking about - there are several in different places on the east side? And hotels in NYC don;t come with free parking - it generally runs $30 per night up. Have you checked with the hospital to see if they have discount arrangements with any hotels or apartment complexes nearby. That's probably the best way to get good rates. If you're talking about one of the hospitals along York avenue you might try the Bentley hotel to see what they have available - they had some good rates last year- don;t know about when you're coming - and it's much closer to those hospitals. |
Agree it's pretty important we know which hospital. There's NYU on 34 st. (the Envoy Club[$209 on quikbook] or Affinia Dumont might work for here along with Murray Hill East Suites, Shelburne Murray Hill, even the Eastgate Towers [$229 on quikbook] isn't too far).
Then there's NY Cornell, Memorial Sloane etc. in the 60s on York. The above would work, but not as close. The Bentley already mentioned and the Affinia Gardens are closest I think. But agree check with the hospital for special rates they may have. Memorial has it's own hotel, the Hlemsley Tower. Here's more info http://www.scubamom.com/nyc/ |
Should have added there's lots of decent parking near 1st ave. & York. If you want a specific place, go to iconparking.com and select something near whatever hotel you pick. Good luck!
Thanks to everyone .. I will be heading to the NYU Hospital .. Someone mentioned The Affinia Dumont but it is also in the $300 range before parking .. I have never tried Priceline but am considering it because most of these hotels are over $300 ... Am hoping to find something for a bit less ...
I just had surgery at NYU and stayed at Eastgate Towers on 39th b/w 2nd and 3rd avenue. It was fine - I paid $232 a night.
Did you check any of the other Affinia hotels in that area? Also, sometimes there are speical offers on their website, affinia.com.
Priceline is probably best for value, but the location may not be as close as you'd like. |
Check the NYC hotel specials at www.travelzoo.com to see if any of the hotels listed are close enough to where you want to be. Some of the deals are quite good.
If you want to consider priceline, be sure to look at their area map for the Midtown East area to see if there might be hotels that are too far away from where you want to be. You can see a list of hotels that have come up for that zone in the past (and see bidding tips) at www.biddingfortravel.com and www.betterbidding.com |
The Envoy Club would work well. Rooms are apts. with kitchens. A studio (one big room) of 550 sf (that's big!) is $207.50/night on their own website. envoyclub.com
The hospital is at 34th st & 1st ave. The hotel is on 33rd b/w 1st & 2nd. Travelzoo has a special on the Affinia Dumont for $179 and $194 bw/ June 14 and Sept. http://hotels.travelzoo.com/new-york-hotels/242017 |
Went to Travel Zoo and was able to get $194 for the Affinia Dumont .. which is probably a great price and close to NYU Hospital ... Thank you so much for all your help ! !
Great! Hope all goes well. I meant to say to Radiofanatic, hope your surgery went ok. ((F))
This might not be east enough for you, but we're staying at the Econo Lodge Times Square (W. 47th, I think). We're paying around $153 a night. Just Google Econo Lodge and you'll find it easily.
thanks McClaurie, it did and thanks for the heads up about Eastgate - it worked out well. I found out why things were so booked that week in NYC, it was fashion week and the week the five tv channels were doing their fall show reviews.
One last question .. any restaurant recommendations close to the NYU Hospital or the Dumont hotel .. Thanks again especially to mclaurie for the hotel and parking garage info .. Much .. much appreciated ! !
The hospital is all the way east on 1st ave. and I always have trouble finding restaurants near there. There are delis for take out or cafeteria style right on 1st., but for a regular sit down meal you have to go a bit further west on 2nd, 3rd or Lexington. The one exception is El Parador, a Mexican rest. that's on 34 st. b/w 1st & 2nd and has been there forever. There are other Mexicans in the area that I think are better and cheaper though. El Rio Grande is one.
Trio on 33rd b/w 3rd & 2nd is very good. It's Croatian but the food is similar to Italian. There are also several Italian restaurants along 34 st. that are good. Cosette is a small French bistro, good and reasonably priced on the next block. http://www.cosette-bistro.com/index.html Do you know about menupages.com? YOu can search by location and cuisine. Pick the east 30s and have fun. There's also a feature there that has places with delivery. You can certainly order in at your hotel. ;) Good luck and hope you have a good stay. |
Thank you mahs for starting this thread and all the terrific replies. Many of which I will be using.
Can any one here comment on the thread started by jserv on New York Transportation as far as the accuracy of the WALKING part of the recommended website www.hopstop.com You are all the best. Sandy |
There Sarge's Deli on 36th and 3rd Ave; and Penelope's for breakfast/brunch on 31st and Lexington.
Great hotel deals at www.nyc.com
i always recommend the u.n millenium plaza, great rates, and great hotel. and, i second the suggestion for "penelope's" for breakfast. my favorite!!
I just returned from a 9-night stay at Affinia Dumont and was VERY pleased. Hotel is situated well, staff is very sweet and always helpful with a smile. Ask for a high floor for great views and no noise (in an area which is already low noise to begin with since it is residential).
Had a good dinner at Notaro's, an Italian restaurant on 2nd ave. around 35th I think. If you get there before 6:30 and order their fixed price dinner, you get soup, salad, main course with sides, coffe and desert all for $19.95. Great deal and great food. Enjoy. |
HELP... Best laid plans have now changed .. my date has changed by one week to June 23rd.. and I called the Affinia Dumont and that wonderful rate of $194 is now $349 ... I need to stay at least two nights .. Any other suggestions out there .. I was so happy with the Affinia Dumont it was absolutely perfect .. but $349 is just a bit too pricey ... PLS HELP .. Mclaurie .. are you out there ... ? ?
The Econolodge has $189 rates for your dates.
At this time of year, the first place to look is http://hotels.travelzoo.com/new-york-hotels/
It's not nearly as close, but Millen. UN Plaza for $179 is a very good option. It's a bus ride away from NYU hospital. On quikbook the Envoy Club is $178. That's closer than the UN Plaza. Have you tried PHONING Aff. Dumont and explaining to the manager and asking if they can honor your price for the next week? Their Shelburne Murray Hill would also be nice if it's available/affordable. |
Hi Mclaurie ...Thank you so much for your response .. I did phone Aff Dumont .. No luck .. The rate was no longer available ... I did book the Envoy Club at $212 (quikbook shows $178 but not available for those dates .. rate changes to $212 when you book )... Also the Millenium UN Plaza for $179 .. they offered 20% off all food and beverage while you a guest .. do you think there is much of a difference in hotels and/or is the Envoy that much closer to NYU than the Millenium UN .. is it walking distance ? .. Am thinking if I have to take a bus or cab .. maybe it is worth staying at the Envoy for a $45 difference per night ... Your thoughts please .. ? And again .. thank you so much .. ! !
Message to Mclaurie .. Just tried Quikbooks again and was able to get the $178 rate! Thank you .. thank you .. ! I feel like I just won a prize .. getting a room at that hotel for that rate .. PERFECT ! !
Again .. please accept my sincere thank you ... ! If you have any restaurant suggestions .. please send along .. I have so appreciated all your suggestions and information .. ! ! |
I'm assuming you mean you go the Envoy Club for the promotion price of $178! You will be only about a half block from the hospital. Much more convenient...even closer than the Affinia Dumont really. They are close though, so all the restaurants mentioned near the Aff. Dumont will work for the Envoy Club too. Someone has mentioned Penelope as a good place for breakfast/brunch
http://menupages.com/restaurantdetai...mp;cuisineid=0 and the Golden Dragon looks to be a good option for deliver or takeout Chinese http://menupages.com/restaurantdetai...mp;cuisineid=0 The Townhouse Diner also sounds like a good option for a casual meal. http://menupages.com/restaurantdetai...p;cuisineid=22 |
Oh gosh, mahs. Recent reviews on tripadvisor for the Envoy Club are not so good. Please check them out. You might want to go to plan B and do the Millenium UN Plaza.
Hi Mclaurie ... What or where do you mean when you say trip advisor .. is this something attached to the Fodor's site .. ? Again .. thank you .. !
Just found www.tripadvisor...had never gone to the site ... YEEZ ... Am thinking I would not be terribly happy if I found mice in my room ... Not sure what to do .. I do have a reservation .. maybe I should just watch travelzoo over the next few days .. as I have 48 hours to cancel .. or just try to go back to the Millenium UN Plaza ... ? ?
Since I don't know how often you'll need to go to the hospital and how mobile you'll be, it's hard to make a judgement. But if you know you don't want to stay at the Envoy Club then cancel it and make a reservation elsewhere. Your options are:
>the Mill. UN PLaza $179 with the travelzoo rate >there's a special also at the Crowne Plaza UN (not as nice imo) $169 >I don't know much about it, but the Hotel Chandler is $167 or $194 on quikbook and reviews on tripadvisor are very good. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Rev..._New_York.html The location is not bad for you and it looks nice in the pics. I know it's been redone from something else. >The Park South also wouldn't be bad location wise and it's a decent hotel. Their rooms tend to be small but the $159/179 price on quikbook is for a double double which should be bigger. I think it's unlikely a special at the Aff. Dumont will come up again for your dates as it seems to be heavily booked on their own site. The Aff. Shelburne would be good though if that came up. Other nice hotels in the area are the W Tuscany, the W Court, 70 Park, the Kitano. |
Have been checking with trip advisor and the reviews of the Envoy Club have not been good and seem to get worse .. am wondering if I should switch to the W New York either the Court or Tuscany even the .. Millenium UN Plaza .. has anyone been there .. and again am heading into the NYU Medical Center .. so I am hoping for a hotel as close as possible ... I know the location is great for the Envoy Club but the reviews are not great ..
The rooms at the W New York are very small. The W Tuscany and W Court are both very nice hotels and a good location for you but so is the Mill. UN Plaza. I don't see any specials for the W Court or Tuscany?
Hi Mclaurie .. Saw it on Travelzoo ... am just not sure how close any of them are .. Envoy Club appears to be so very close .. but I am a clean freak .. so I would not be very happy with mice or dark and deary ... My husband says we should stay with the Envoy Club solely because of the location .. but I am willing to change if the rooms would be that much nicer ... or if we could be more comfortable overall ...
I repeat, it's hard to advise w/o knowing what the surgery is, how mobile you'll be, how often you need to go back to the hospital etc. and I'm not asking you to tell us here. It's just if it's outpatient surgery and you really only have to go to the hospital and then to the hotel one time, you could in theory stay anywhere. I personally wouldn't risk the Envoy Club right now since these reports are so recent and the last thing you need with surgery is some place that's not spotless. I wouldn't pick the W New York, esp. if you think you'll be spending some time in the room. It will be claustrophic. I would stay at either the W Court or Tuscany but not for a fortune. The Mill. UN is really very nice. Don't know why you're resisting that one.
Also - the Ramada at 30th & Lexington is quite close to NYU Hospital. You could walk from the hotel to the hospital in 10 minutes. My parents stay there frequently and although the rooms are small and simple, it has always been clean. I think the price is fairly reasonable - probably $200 or less.
They should pay you to stay at that Ramada.
