Mid Range Romantic Restaurant In Las Vegas
I am taking my husband to Las Vegas in January and we are staying at the Aladdin. Any suggestions on a romantic restaurant within walking distance that won't break the bank?

Mon Ami Gabi at Paris. Delicious Steak Frites. Ask for a sidewalk table.

Mid-range meaning what dollar range? I've never eaten at Mon Ami Gabi, but others have given it good to fair reviews. I was not impressed with the the Les Artistes steak house inside Paris. It's a bit more expensive than Mon Ami Gabi, however. Might be worth a try. Check out their menu on-line, at monamigabi.com. Not sure an outside table will be that comfortable in January. Highs tend to be in the 50s - low 60s. Gets down to close to freezing at night. Commanders Palace just off the Aladdin soon to be Planet Hollywood has it's devotes, if you like New Orleans style food. Again, I've not eaten there. Mid-range is hard to find in Lost Wages these days. It's either kitchy (a la Jimmy Buffet's at the Flamingo, fun but not romantic) or $100 per person and up. Not many food bargains any more.

I've got my eye on Bouchon at the Venetian for my upcoming anniversary. It's not cheap, but it looks much more reasonable than many of the super high end Vegas places.
|
We ate at the Bouchon and it is a very romantic place....
We also ate at the Range at Harrahs, lots of dark woods and more of an old fashioned steakhouse atmosphere but the food was "in my opinion" much better quality than Bouchon for a bit less. |
Andre's at Monte Carlo is very romantic

I ate at Bouchon about a year ago for a business dinner and they did something that made me decide never to go back. They asked if we wanted sparkling water or still water -- I said regular water (meaning tap) and they treated it as a request for bottled still water -- and of course kept the water glasses full to the top throughout the meal. My business colleague was paying (so I wasn't going to say anything), but I will not go back. Interesting thing, I read recently that high-end restaurants have pissed so many people off with their high bottled water charges that they've stopped pushing the issue. I'd welcome the thoughts of others.

Mid Range for us would be $100 - $150 for the both of us. Has anyone been to Mesa Grill in Ceasars?
|
First of all let me say there is NO reason to be intimitaed by the water deal. Say you want TAP water, end of discussion.
Here's a rarely spoken of place-- in the passageway between Paris and Bally's (at the back of the casinos) is Ortanique, a wonderful place that fits within your budget. We knew of it because of the wonderful Coral Gables version (Miami) and its superchef, Cindy Hudgson. The tables are spacious and the place is quiet, there are big screens of underwater scenes playing, the food is wonderful. http://www.usmenuguide.com/ortanique.html |
I was really underwhelmed by Andre's at Monte Carlo. Maybe the other Andre's is better. Food was just ok, service was perfunctory at best. My fish, which was the special of the house at $50 a plate, was swimming in butter, too rich to enjoy.

I ate at Mesa Grill over the summer. I liked it a lot - the food, service and ambience were all very good. However, I wouldn't say it is particularly romantic - It is a large open, style restaurant with high ceilings.
|
I wanted to try Ortanique our last visit because of their interesting menu and more reasonable prices, but it was closed the night we stopped by (Monday I think). Unlike most restaurants in Vegas that are open seven days a week, this is a relatively small operation that actually does close from time to time. It would be worth checking, and definitely worth making a reservation if you decide you want to try it.
|
we love Drai's - at one point, it was voted top romantic according to Gourmet magazine
do a search and check it out. |
Flash - Ortanique wasn't just closed for the night we were there in June, it's closed, at least at Paris (actually the tunnel between Paris and Ballys), for good. I just called trying to get a reservation. The receptionist at Paris said the owner might have relocated off strip.
