Mid-Atlantic resort area for Xmas holidays?

At the last minute, I'm looking for a resort for 8 of us (2 couples in late 50's and 2 in their late 20's) to spend a few days over, and including, Christmas. I'd like their to be activities to keep everyone busy, a good Christmas dinner, and the location to be about 4 hours drive from D.C. Originally, I thought of the Homestead, but it's booked. The Greenbrier is probably a little too expensive. But that's the kind of thing I'm shooting for. Any ideas? Thanks!

Two years ago, we spent a weekend in December at Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg. I'm sure it is definitely cheaper than the Greenbriar, but lovely. We had a one bedroom suite that was huge. Spa treatments were wonderful. Unfortunately, I don't remember what it cost. I remember that they had a lot of activities and events planned for the holidays.

Hi! You might also consider Wintergreen Resort- Close to Charlottesville, plus it's own skiing, skating etc....Kingsmill is a great idea! Or perhaps the Williamsburg Inn- Beautiful at Christmas!

P.S.- You also might think about The Tides Inn at Irvington- Beautiful!

If golf interests you, try Southern Pines.
