Microtel in syracuse, NY
Does anyone have any experience at this property? My choices are Sheraton at $260/nite or Microtel @ $60/nite for SU parents weekend.
General comments on the chain would be appreciated also.
Thanks

If the microtel is a new one you should be okay. Do not expect luxury or even a holiday inn. They do not have restaurant's usually only a coffe area. I would rate them like a Super 8. Must be new to be clean and ok.
Have fun.

Although this post is over a year old, I would like to know how far Microtel is from Syracuse University (walking distance? we won't have a car.)
I also checked the Sheraton on campus, it is not available one of the nights we need, and the price is much higher, too. Any other hotel suggestions? (walking distance to SU) Thanks. |
Nancy, the Microtel (either the Old Collamer Rd. location or the one in Baldwinsville) is not within walking distance to SU. Have you tried the Genesee Inn? It has just undergone extensive remodeling. 1060 E Genesee St, Syracuse, phone is (315) 476-4212. You can also try The Marx http://www.marxsyracuse.com at 701 East Genesee St. Phone is 315-479-7000. These are within walking distance to SU. While you are searching anything that says Carrier Circle or Rt. 298 is too far from the university. You might also want to try Hawthorn Suites, although not really within walking distance it is downtown and probably your next closest. http://www.hawthorn.com

We had the misfortune of staying at the Microtel near Carrier Circle in Nov of 2002. We were on a trip to a funeral in Rochester and drove as long as we could until we were exhausted. Unfortunately, we didn't realize it was parents' weekend at SU and all of the hotels were booked. The situation took on biblical proportions because I was about 8 1/2 mos pregnant at the time.
Anyway, the Microtel was awful. It was filthy and full of loud partiers. It was also rundown. Whatever you pay for it ain't worth it. |
