Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota need help planning our camping adventure
We are planning a tent camping adventure in late July. Taking our dog and exploring Northern Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota. We have never been before and need some suggestions.
We love to hike and explore nature filled parks. Our plan is to drive to the Northern Peninsula, should we stay on the western or eastern side? Then cross over into Wisconsin and into Minnesota.
Need help finding great tent camping parks. Looking for quiet places for camping, canoeing, hiking and exploring.
Suggested routes would be appreciated
Thanks.

We have tent camped at Sleeping Bear and Pictured Rocks National LS in MI. Both have some nice camping spots. Pictured Rocks is more remote but it does have some nice sites over looking the big lake.

We camp MN all the time - some of our favorites are the State Parks on the North Shore of Lake Superior and we loved the experience we had at Jay Cooke. http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/state_par...oke/index.html
We also camp often at Norway Beach, which is on HWY 2 by Cass Lake: They have many miles of biking and a decent beach (watch for swimmers itch.) We like the large private camp sites there.

You might try going up to Bayfield - taking the ferry over to Madeline Island and camping at Big Bay State park or the Town park - their is lots of good hiking along the lakeshore - very scenic - or inland - Also, their are lot of other things to do in the area - The Apostle Islands is an area of undiscovered gems --

Tahquamenon Falls State Park is a lovely setting with several great nearby attractions: the falls, Whitefish Point & the Great Lakes Shipwreck Musuem, and nearby lighthouses. It would be easy to get to Grand Marais from there as well.
There are 6 different campgrounds in the park and 6 trails ranging from 1 to 7.4 miles. Plus the Lake Superior Shore

Just so you know, there are two Grand Marais' on Lake Superior. One is on the South Shore in Michigan and the other is on the North Shore in Minnesota. IMHO, I much prefer the one in MN but have to admit I grew up on the North Shore so know the area better. I have been to the MI one too but not as much to do there.
