Michelangelo, Kimberly Hotel or The Stanhope? NYC

We can't decide which hotel to stay at while in NYC in October. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. We are primarily going to get a quick (3 day) taste of this city.

Can't offer any advice on the above, but have returned this morning from 4 days in NYC. We stayed at Park South Hotel, on E28th between Park and Lexington, and it was great. About 30 metres from the subway, comp breakfast (a real one rather than the usual 'coffee and danish' that constitutes a comp breakfast!), good sized rooms, very clean and up together (only opened Nov 2001), bathrobe provided, in a quiet area, and all for $129 via Quikbook.

The service was great too. It was my birthday the day we arrived and the receptionist sung happy birthday (how embarassing), and arranged a card and chocolate cake compliments of the hotel.

Post again with email address if u want a more detailed conversation about it.

The Michaelangelo and the Kimberly are both very nice hotels. But, the Stanhope is, in my opinion, a cut above the others. It is now owned by the Park Hyatt chain. They have a lovely tea in the afternoon in the lobby. It is right across the street from the Metropolitan museum, steps from Madison Ave, the Guggeheim, Central Park, etc. I think it wins hands down.

I agree with lisa--the Stanhope would be my choice. Great neighborhood, great hotel!

Stanhope is beautiful and certainly more of a luxury hotel, but I actually prefer the Kimberly--neighborhood is more accessible and the suites at the Kimberly really make you feel like you're in an apartment as opposed to a hotel room.

I vote for midtown, i.e. the Kimberly or the Michelangelo. Stanhope is inconvenient for a quick 3 day taste of the city, midtown gives you the most convenient access to most of the tourist attractions.

Thank you for your responses. The location is important to us and it sounds that the Kimberly in midtown would be a better choice for us. We do like space, so a suite is more appealing. We are looking forward to our first sojourn to New York. I'll probably have a few more questions as October gets closer. This appears to be an excellent board for information.

Ziggy: If you stay at the Kimberly, 2 tips directly across 3rd Avenue from your hotel.

Ess-a-Bagel, some of the best bagels in New York. Great for breakfast, lunch or a snack.

La Maganette, old time Italian restaurant, been around 30 years. If the weather holds up, it has one of the nicest outdoor seating areas in midtown. Great for pizza, pasta or just drinks. Also has a reasonable (not cheap)price fixed dinner that offers enough food to keep you going the entire next day. It's not gourmet, but good oldtime reliable southern Italian.

Thanks Frank....we'll check those two places out, while in town. Love Italian food!!
