Michelangelo Hotel-NYC
Hello! I have planned a very short weekend trip to NYC for my husband's birthday. We have stayed at the Essex House in the past but I have made a reservaton at the Michelangelo this time. Any feedback on the hotel and the location?

The location is even better if you are doing theatre as it is just above Times Square. It is part of the very old and huge Taft Hotel which was converted mainly to apartments, but a small part into this high end hotel which has operated under several names. Our room was beautifully furnished and small, but not tiny. The worst drawback is that many rooms (as ours did) face inner air shafts (sort of like courtyards) rather than any outside open space so the rooms tend to be very dark. It's right across the street from Le Bernadin if you want to splurge for a memorable dinner one night.

Thanks so much for the info Patrick. Was the breakfast worth going down for or did you try it? It sounds like we need to request a "room with a view".

Don't recall breakfast there. By all means go up the street to Stage Deli or better yet, Carnegie Deli for breakfast. Do not go across the street to the Roxy! The waiter even insisted that the lipstick on our orange juice glasses was permanent, although we wiped if off with our fingers and showed him. <BR>

Thanks again for the advise. Yikes, permanent lipstick on the glass?

Stayed at the Michelangelo last fall, in a huge double room (Executive category, I think) with lovely furnishings, including a Bose radio/CD player, sleigh beds with duvets, four or five telephones and a small TV next to the bathroom sink (in addition to the big one in the room itself). Felt quite pampered. There was complementary espresso and pastries in the lobby, but by the time we got downstairs (9:45?), they had been put away. We ate expensively and only adequately in the hotel restaurant. I would agree to go up the block to a deli.
