Michaelangelo or Benjamin NYC

My partner and I are going to NYC on 1st December for his Birthday - which of these hotels would you recommend to us?

Never been to the Benjamin but have stayed at the Mchlnglo.

I like the atmosphere and location of the Mich -- the European decor is a nice change from the typical Marriott Marquis look.

The times I stayed there I got upgraded to a suite, so maybe my commentary on the rooms isn't a fair one. Both times, the rooms were great, with large marble bathroom, etc.

I had heard people complain about the breakfast (served in the lobby) at the Mich, but they must have upgraded it when I was there. Fresh rolls, juice, good coffee.

In my experience, staff was friendly and efficient.

same here, only been to Mich. I really like it. I have stayed there 3 times, in 4 different rooms. With each stay they get better. The last one I stayed in was un-freaking-believable. HUGE living room, separate bedroom, TWO marble bathrooms, and a view of the street, not a brick wall as is so typical in NY hotels, even the good ones. I've seen the Osbornes in smaller hotel rooms. Of course, it was $550, and they gave me the upgrade because they had put me into a room I complained about the night before. Still, you can always hope.

The breakfast was perfect for me. Muffins and cappucino (the real stuff...made while you wait). But I can see how someone who likes a wide variety of stuff (some healthy) like you get at many Cont. BF (like yogurt, cereal, fruit, etc.) would be unhappy. ALso, the orange juice was an extra $7. Ah, NYC.

Let's see. . . a generous 10 oz glass of orange juice would be about 12 to a gallon. That's $84 a gallon for orange juice. Kinda makes the price of gas seem insignificant doesn't it?
LOL

Are you feeling okay Patrick:-D

Ashland, either one as both are outstanding hotels. I think the Michelangelos standard rooms are larger than the Benjamin's rooms. I would call and ask.

Yet another vote for the Michelangelo, tho I've never stayed at the Benjamin. I think we had the same room as Litespeed when she was there last!
