Islamorada Seafood Company has a great outdoor patio/pier and is right by the Outdoor Sportsman store(Bass Pro)... Mostly seafood but very kid friendly...

You can visit John Pennekamp State Park in Key Largo (south of Miami). Take the early morning glass bottom boat trip and then you can hike or bike along the trails or kayak. http://www.floridastateparks.org/pennekamp/

Vizcaya Museum in Miami has lovely grounds on Biscayne Bay. Check the site for times/days they are open. http://vizcaya.org/

I don't know what kind of food you want or what your taste is, but I have been visiting Islamorada for a few years now, every winter. We take most of our meals at Ma's Fish Camp. It is not on the water but on the main road, and is not fancy. Popular with locals and peoplel coming to fish. It is moderately priced for the area. Get the cracked conch and the chowder. their Key Lime Pie is the best I've ever had.

We stop at Cafe Moka and Sunshine food. They are next to each other so he gets Cuban and I get French and we have a picnic. Yummm. Robbies would be fun for your kids though.

We have found, on several trips to Key Largo, and not a few drives down the keys, that the Islmorada area has a lot to offer.
