Miami-South Beach hotel for family

Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced (!) hotel in South Beach area for Mom and Dad and 9 year old daughter? On the AAA site I found the Edison with a pool for $125.00, the La Flora is $99.00, the President is $117.00 and Richmond $129.00. Any experience with these or suggestions for others? Thank you!

Have you considered staying on Key Biscayne? I'm not particularly familiar with hotels there other than the Sonesta Beach Hotel - which is perfectly delightful, but Key Biscayne seems much more well-suited to families. Although I have limited experiences with both places, South Beach is (at least in my opinion) more geared toward adult entertainment. Other resorts for families are Loew's and the Sheraton Bar Harbor, but I think they may be in the upper price range.

Have to agree with the last post, I have a 5 and 8 year old, and I wouldn't take them to South Beach. My husband and I go for a long weekend every year, we love it, but there's too many bazaar things to see on the streets to have to explain to a 9 year old. The Loews would be better, because it has it's own compound with pool, restaurants, etc, and it's big with families and conferences. The lower priced hotels in South Beach will have a lot of young singles, might not be comfortable for a family.

Mary,
Beware of the smaller, cheaper hotels with small children. I concur that the Loews is an excellent, family-oriented selection. I would also consider the National and the Shelburne. All of those hotels are a little more on the high end. Have you considered one of the downtown hotels, like the Marriott? That way you're only 5 mins. from South Beach and you're also close to the Bayside attraction, which is very family oriented.

My parents just stayed at the Sheraton Bal Harbour and found it 'tacky'.

I agree that S. Beach is not a great place for children. Too much sleaze there.

Try looking further-up the beach, I would say from the 30's and up. The environment should be more appropriate.

Some which you may want to look into include:

Best Western Beach Resort
4333 Collins Avenue
Miami Beach, FL 33140

Clarion Suites Crystal Beach
6985 Collins Avenue
Miami Beach, FL 33141

Dezerland
8701 Collins Ave.
Miami Beach, FL 33154
(305) 865-6661

Cadillac
39th and Collins

Castillo del Mar Resort
5445 Collins Avenue
Miami Beach, FL 33140

Comfort Inn
6261 Collins Ave.
Miami Beach, FL 33140

Have you considered another part of FL, such as the Keys or the W. Coast?

Here are some places which seem like good values on the S.W. Coast:

Sanibel Island:

I find some of these postings very strange. I have been to south Beach many times, most recently 3 wks ago, and will be going back in 3 wks. I don't see what is so 'bazaar' in South beach. I have seen many young families with samll children. If anything, we need to expose our childeren to all types of people that live in our country.
As we have seen in many 'supposed safe'
small towns and cities in America's heartland, our youngsters are becoming increasingly in-tolerant of people who are 'different'. If we continue to isolate childeren to people have are differnt, we will continue to see incidents like Columbine & Paducah KY, where student are are 'differnt' are teased and ostracised.
No one see to say it was 'unsafe', which would be a legitimite concern
