Miami later this week... clothes/museums

heading to Miami area for several days (staying in Hollywood) for our first visit to Florida. Have looked at the forecast- mid 70s- does that translate to lightweight pants/capris, short-sleeved shirts, and sandals? Would my husband wear something like aloha shirts and slacks? Not sure how dressy things are or if what we wear in Hawaii is fine.

Looks like several museums throughout the area- Norton, Bass, Vizcaya, Lowe, Wolfsonian... which are your favorites? We'll have a car so I assume we'll just go wherever and be able to park nearby? thanks!

I think what you wear in Hawaii would be fine. Some people get dressier to go to nicer restaurants in the evening, but what you mention would be just fine for most places.

As for museums, I love Vizcaya. There is definitely easy parking there. The Bass is on Miami Beach and there are many garages around or if you can find it, on-street metered parking. I have only been to the Bass once for a special exhibit, but enjoyed that.

Have fun!

Wolfsonian is extremely eccentric but absolutely fascinating. I too love Vizcaya.

If mid day temperatures are in the 70' you will want a wrap or sweater for the evening, and your husband might want a light (and colorful) sports jacket or cotton sweater. Ditto during the day when the wind blows in from the Atlantic. It is usually a bit warmer on the West Coast because the Gulf is shallower and thus warmer.

thanks for the replies. I'm curious about the Norton Museum- it would be an hour drive north- worth it?? Guess we could stop at the Breakers and look at the property/architecture if up there!

How long it takes to drive to the Norton depends heavily on day of week and time of day. I 95 is a parking lot during rush hour. It's more like 11/2 hrs. I like the Norton and the Flagler is also worth a visit if you have time for a daytrip to Palm Beach. http://www.flaglermuseum.us/visiting

PS I also adore Vizcaya.

Sorry, I was thinking from Miami. From Hollywood, a bit less.

Although you certainly will see a wide range of clothing styles in Miami, aloha shirts might look a little out of place. (Short-sleeved, more casual shirts for men in daytime - yes, but the specific kind of wild floral patterns that you'd see in an aloha shirt, not so much.) Definitely lots of colour, but a bit more urban than aloha.

Sorry to hi jack, but I'm trying to connect with Florida1, and I see she replied to you with info. So, Florida, can you email me?
I can't find your contact info. We are in Ocean Reef, and would love to maybe meet you at a museum and have lunch in Miami Beach.
