Miami in a rush.....suggestions?
 

Hi!

I'm going to Miami two times. First time I'll only have two evenings free. The second time I'll only have 1 1/2 days.

Any recommendations for what you would do if you only had this limited time? I prefer hanging out with the locals, seeing a bit of the touristy stuff, checking out interesting neighbourhoods, not really into museums and art galleries, EATING!!!!, and anything that is off-the-beaten-path.

Where are you staying? South Beach or Miami?

What sort of food do you like, and price range. I have some suggestions but it depends on the above.

I'm staying near Baptist Hospital but will be hiring a car, so would like to spend some time in South Beach.

As for food that I like......Asian, Latino, Spanish. My price range is $20-30 for dinner.

I have some other specific questions:

Are there any wortwhile tours? E.g. boat tours, art deco tours?

Any good spots for night views near South Beach?

Recommendations for casual, lounge-type cafes playing jazz, latino music in the evenings?

Lastly, is Little Havana/Calle Ocho worthwhile?

I think you would love the China Grill in South Beach for a great meal. It is a great place to people watch and the food is amazing....bold flavors. In order to keepthe price down, sit at the bar and eat there. The food is all Carribean/Asian/Latin influenced. Ask the bartenders what they recommend and they will get you the best bang for the buck!

Little Havana/Calle Ocho has not a lot to see...it is still an area in "transition". If you wanted delicious Cuban food, then I would go there. Go to either Versailles or La Carretta...both places are delicious and inexpensive...try it for lunch..but you will be FULL afterwards! They are both across the road from each other.

For Jazz music check out Van Dykes on Lincoln Road.

For Latin...definately Macarena...but it does not get going until 9:30pmand it is wild!
