Miami for the day
 

We will be in Miami only for the day(June 18th). We have booked a rental car and want to know what would be the best things to do. We will arrive at 9:30a.m. and leave at 9:15 p.m..
We know this is a very short amount of time, but never having been to Miami we thought see what we can. We are in our early sixties,active, like museums, Places to eat that are where locals would go and are not expensive($$$ is o.k.) . We don't care for Thai or Indian food and we like to be able to hear each other i.e. not to noisy. Any craft or street fairs would be fun as well. Boy, don't I sound picky. Other times I left too little information and now I may have left too much.

My favorite museum in Miami is Vizcaya, an Italian villa and gardens. http://www.vizcayamuseum.org/ YOu could easily visit there, take a visit to Coconut Grove and see the Venetian Pool http://www.miamibeach411.com/article...tian-pool.html and if you want, have a walk in South Beach which isn't that far. Joe's Stone Crab is a classic Miami place if you like stone crabs.

We did a bus tour that took us to different areas of Miami and South Beach, it can be also a combo with a boat. I would do it again, it was informative, took to different areas of the town, we even tried Cuban coffee! :)

We went to a farmers market in Coconut Grove, and it does have some crafts.

I agree with Mclaurie's suggestions.

mclaurie's suggestions are excellent. Also consider seeing the Lowe Art Museum (at the Univ. of Miami, for me, the best art museum locally) and spending some time seeing the Art Deco architecture at South Beach -- the latter of which would be convenient if you eat at Joe's Stone Crab (excellent place for food, but get there early, as they don't take reservations and are justly popular). Another worthy food stop is Versailles in Little Havana.

A second on Joe's Stone Crab. BUT, you don't necessarily have to eat in the fancy restaurant. Next door is a cafe which is perfect for lunch. We did this last December and purchased a ton of seafood to eat as a group, along with a couple of salads. If you are interested, Google Joe's and get details.

A guidebook search will also yield good results. Check online here and at Frommers.

You can either walk along the beach and duck in for lunch or go over to Lincoln Road. Many restaurants outdoors to choose from.
