Miami Coral Gables sucks!
 

this hotel was supposed to open March 1. They did not...and did not inform their customers that had reservations until mid-February!! Ever try to find a hotel in Miami for a reasonable price at spring Break?? They were going to put us up at the Airport Mariott. IT was so nice that they plan to gut it and completely rennovate it in June!! I had to find my own hotel....these people have no concept of customer service! When I complained, they offered to give me a free room once they open in May... I live in Kansas....fat lot of good that did...all I ask them to do was move us to another hotel rather than the Mariott Airport.

What hotel are you talking about? This is a very odd way to title and start a post...

crazyb1, you know it absolutely conceivable that they wouldn't know they would not be able to make their opening date before mid-February.

It's probably the rare hotel that does open on schedule. We have a 1000 room hotel trying to open in our town since mid February. Finally yesterday they were to have a soft opening of a few rooms but had to cancel that THE DAY BEFORE! Up until that point, they thought they could do it. Now...it's all up in the air with a huge event scheduled here in two weeks

I agree ...they may not have known until the last possible minute...but when they tried to put me in a hotel that I would not accept...as the customer they should have respected my wishes and found another mariott to put me in....their customer service was non-existent

I'm a little confused by the events. Did you find out before you left for Miami that the hotel wasn't available and then worked by phone to solve the problem? Or are you saying you arrived at the unfinished hotel to discover the situation?

they called me 3 weeks (BEFORE SPRING BREAK IN MIAMI) before we left and told me that I was not going to have a room....then tried to put me up in this hotel that is going to be gutted and redone...I had to scramble around and find a place to stay...

So you booked a hotel that was "scheduled to open March 1" for the first week or so it was to open, and three weeks before the scheduled opening they realized it was delayed. (Hard to imagine a construction delay, has anyone ever heard of such a thing?). So they notified you when they realized it wouldn't be open -- three WEEKS before you were to go.

Yea, they should be sued for at least a couple million dollars and hopefully have all their hotels closed down for their inconsiderate behavior.

Frankly, the bottom line? Who would ever book a hotel knowing it was for the first week it is "supposed to be open" without have an alternate back up plan? I sure wouldn't. Some people even post here questioning if they are crazy to book a hotel a month or two AFTER it has just opened.

Marriott did the right and appropriate things here. Patrick is right...you absolutely can't rely on a new hotel opening right on time. It's typical of many construction projects, in fact, not just hotels.

The reason I had asked when they notified you was, I assumed from your anger they didn't tell you until you got there or something like that. Now THEN I'd be mad.

If I was a tourist visiting here, I'd rather stay on/near the beach.
