MIAMI BEACH ACCOMODATIONS FOR FAMILY OF 6?
 

Is there any place on or near Miami Beach that will accomodate a family of six in one room? 2 adults and 4 children (ranging in age from 17 to 11).

Otherwise, what would be the best family freindly (great pool, beach) accomodation on or near Miami Beach. Yes I know that Miami Beach is not oriented towards younger crowds (kids), but that is where we would like to stay.

I don;t know any place anywhere that will allow you to put 6 adults (or at least full-size people in one room). Have you looked at any of the all suite hotels so you're at least not falling all over each other every second?

South Beach isn't particularly family-friendly, but the rest of Miami Beach can be. The problem is your desire to put six people in one room. I'll just flat-out say it-- it's nuts.

You're either going to have to find a hotel with a 2-bedroom, 2-bath suite, or you'll have to get a couple of rooms. Older hotels will have small rooms and stringent occupancy limits (four people in a typical Miami Beach hotel room is pretty tight). Even new hotels will not typically want more than four to a room, for fire code reasons (and wear and tear on the room itself).

I would say look into rent-by-owner condos, like on vrbo.com. A two- or three-bedroom condo would be much more comfortable.

We were just in Miami Beach with our family of six. Staying in an art deco hotel was a big deal to my teens. I didn't find any place that would accomodate the whole family in one room but we did stay in two rooms at the Essex House (essexhotel.com) for what I consider a reasonable amount - about $95 per room. We felt safe and it wasn't too terribly noisy. There was a tiny pool and a free continental breakfast. The hotel is a run down but my kids loved it. We went on the Miami Beach Art Deco preservation walking tour and were excited when the lobby of the Essex House was the last stop on the tour. They said that the Essex House renovated to look the most like it had back in the Art Deco hey day of any of the hotels. I booked directly with the hotel but they honored the hotel.com price.

I think this site has a Miami with kids pace in the destination section of the website. It's worth a look. We had a rental car and drove the kids to Crandon Park for safe swimming. Also, the 11th Street Dinner was a big hit with my kids. Good menu, not too expensive, and in a train car.

We walked at night and tried to use good judgement but we felt safe and comfortable being there with kids. The Gap store on Collins had some great sale prices.

My family of six stayed at the Holiday Inn South Beach and had a great time, we did get two rooms though. We got the rooms on Priceline for $50 a night. We all loved the Nexxt Cafe - huge portions, so plan on sharing. The deep fried french toast at the 11th Street Diner was a hit for breakfast.

Take a look at the Fontainbleau hotel which is on about 44th street and Collins ave. This is perfect for kids with a large pool area and kids pools. You probably can either get a suite or double attached rooms.

We also have 4 children, 15 to age 6. We do quite a bit of traveling and always get one room. We get 2 beds and travel with 2 twin size air mattresses. Some rooms are small and tight with the mattresses but we always manage. If a suite hotel is not available we make do. The thing is, when making the reservation, never tell them you have more than 2 children. Do not enter the hotel lobby to check in with your entire family. Stay low key and no one will care. As for Miami, we were there last summer and stayed at the Best Western Ocean Front Resort. It is in North Miami Beach. It is an old bldging, maybe 1940's but seems to be an old appartment blding with a master bedroom and small kitchen and living room with pull out couch. Publix is a 2 block walk. The hotel is a little cheesey but it is right on the ocean front and very affordable with clean rooms.
