Miami Airport Hotel

We need to stay one night at a hotel near the Miami airport for a lay-over after a long trip. We have been into Miami many times and don't need to do that this time. We just need a hotel with perhaps a free shuttle to the airport that would be quiet and have decent grounds for us to relax for one day. I know there's a hotel right at the airport, but that doesn't sound too relaxing to us. Anyone have any tips? Doesn't have to be cut-rate. We'll pay a bit for a quiet, pretty spot.

Seems like I remember that there is a Hotel right in the airport. You just walk to it after you get off the aircraft. I don't remember the name since the airline put us up there after a long flight from Buenos Aires and we had to overnight before our next flight.
The hotel was quiet and convenient unless you just want to get away from the Airpor, but I don't know of any close buy with a scenic view.

This has happened to us a few times before with extra time in Miami, we always used Priceline for a cheap stay, the PL hotels are decent. You can see prior winning bids and the airport hotel list at www.biddingfortravel.com.

If you are staying 6 hours or less the hotel inside the Miami airport rents for 6 hours @ $100 or so.

The name of the hotel is The MIA, its in the terminal at concourse E. It is very convenient but expensive. There is no grounds, but a small pool on the 9th floor that over looks the runway.

Miami is like any other airport in the US, plenty of airport hotels with a shuttle.

Since I work at the airport, Ive never stayed at any of them but there is a nice Hilton over by Blue Lagoon just west of the airport. The Embassy Suites in on the east side, nice grounds but dont leave the hotel. Also a Wyndam (spelling)which is in a quite part of the airport on a back road instead of the main rd.

I would however reccomend staying away from the Holiday Inn North, its a dump and located where all the highways meet. The airport Marriott is nice but can be very noisy.

South Beach is a 10 minute cab ride.

Good luck!

When our international flight arrived much too late at night to make a connection we were put up at the above mentioned Hilton at about 2 AM. It was really a nice hotel and a beautiful room. Of course since we had to be up at 5 AM for our flight it didn't make much difference. While I've never stayed in that "in airport" hotel, there have been numerous reports ranging from "it was fine" to "it was a total pit".

Thanks -- I think I'll check out that Hilton. Appreciate the input!

This is a nitpick, but the Blue Lagoon referenced earlier is just South of the airport, not west.

I'd take a cab to South Beach (it's a very short cab ride...15 minutes max.) I would rather enjoy the beach for one day rather than a hotel near the airport. If this is a MUST, I would go with the Airport Hilton...newly renovated.

LauraStenicky Jul 28th, 2008 10:42 AM

oops your right, The Hilton is south not west....

NeoPatrick Jul 28th, 2008 05:44 PM

Matter of semantics, I suppose. While the Hilton may be south of the airport itself, if you come out the main entrance of the airport, you go a bit south on Le Jeune, then go west. Sure the Hilton is directly to the south of the airport itself, but unless you are going to walk across the runways. . .
