Miami

Hi myself and my friend are meeting up in Miami and are looking for a hotel in South Beach - we'd like something that is close to shopping areas/cool bars & restaurants and near the beach.Any one have any suggestions ? Budget is up to $200 per night. Something quirky ? If anyone has a suggestion it would be great!

Have you tried Priceline.com? You can get hotels at half the price. No kidding.

Check out the Doubletree Surfcomber at 1717 Collins Av... right on the beach and exactly what you are asking for...

The quirkiest hotel in South Beach is the Pelican Hotel on Ocean Drive. It is run by the Diesel Jeans company, and all its rooms have some sort of retro theme. One room is named "Me Tarzan, you VAIN!" It is definitely not for everyone, but it is fun and funky.

Most South Beach hotels would fall in the quirky category because they were built in the 30's and 40's. The National and the Raleigh are the best and most faithful examples of Art Deco. More affordable hotels with a funky vibe are the Townhouse, the Sagamore, and the Albion. Try looking for hotels on Hotelscombined.com I've always been able to find good rates on that site.
