Miami
2 couples going to the Keys in Feb and flying into Miami. The ladies would like to drive back to Miami on Monday morning to fly out on Tuesday afternoon. Therefore, we have Monday afternoon/evening and maybe a little time Tues morn to explore. We would like rooms under $150 and we do have a rental car. Should we stay at Coral Gables and drive to South Beach for afternoon and evening? Should we stay at South Beach? We also like the small neighborhood places that have good food, not the expensive restaurants. Are there any in South Beach? Thanks!

I forgot to add that husbands are not keen on the idea. It's too expensive, we'll pick the bad side of town to stay in, etc.
Any help appreciated. Thanks again! |
For food, try Joe Allen's near South Beach, a place frequented by locals for comfort food. We prefer staying in Coconut Grove but not sure where you can find $150 in peak seaon.

I couldn't find anything in Coral Gables under $200 for next week that had a good Tripadvisor review. I wouldn't expect it to be much different in February

My favorite haunts for locals in South Beach would be: Sardinia (excellent Italian)on Purdy Ave, Two doors down from Joe Allen and Puerto Sagua, great, inexpensive Cuban food. Clarke's on 1st Street is a terrific Irish grill and pub. Then again, if you want to splurge go to Joe's Stone Crab. No waits for lunch! ... If you opt for Coconut Grove try Le Bouchon French Bistro, especially fun for brunch on Sunday or Sat.

Thanks for the suggestions!
