MIA to FLL -- reasonable transfer time
 

My incoming flight on AA from the Caribbean is scheduled to arrive at 4:52 PM on President's day (Monday) in February which I called South Florida RTA Tri-Rail about and was advised was not considered a major holiday so the trains will keep the "Weekday" schedules on that Monday. Is it reasonable for me to expect to complete immigration and take either the 6:20 PM train departure from MIA airport which arrives FLL airport at 6:58 PM for a domestic flight on Allegiant departing at 8:36 PM, or a 6:50 PM train from MIA Airport which arrives FLL airport at 7:28 PM which I imagine will still be OK since I will have my boarding pass printed out in advance and no checked bags?

I understand there is no pre-clearance at the Caribbean origin so I will have to complete immigration in MIA.

Are you aware of the transfer time between the train and the FLL airport terminals?

From a distance, this looks like a potential disaster... you are depending on multiple public transportation agencies, tsa security, and customs to process you efficiently in a set time period... make sure you have some back up options if something goes awry.

one option is to arrive and take a car service or taxi to FLL... this gets you on the road at approximately 5pm, rather than waiting for the train at 6:20 or 6:50... then you will be through security at FLL well before the flight...

No way will he get on the road by 5 pm if the plane is scheduled to land at 4:52 pm from an international flight, no less. If he could do, he could obviously take the train at 5:20 or 5:48.

I havent' been through that airport in ages, but I'd try to get an earlier train and if you can't get at least the 5:48, I'd probably get a taxi or ride service rather than wait for the train at 6:20.

Honestly, I too think this is a potential fail. I have only experienced MIA immigration a couple of times, but it is a busy airport and took a while for us, plus some longish walks. Are you a US citizen? I see references to average times for citizens of around an hour, up to as much as 4 hours for non-citizens.

In addition to the fact (which I alluded to above) that the Tri Rail station for the FLL airport is actually at Dania Beach and requires transfer to a shuttle service, the station for MIA airport is not directly in the MIA terminal either. Both connections will add additional time to the proposed journey.
