We are staying at the MGM in Las Vegas first week end in August and wondered what people thought of that hotel. We are in the ones at the back with no view but the price was right. Are the back rooms nice and how far are the pools? We usually stay at Treasure Island - we decided to move up the strip. Thanks.

I've stayed there twice and enjoyed myself thoroughly each time. The rooms were very nice and quiet, the bathrooms were great. I loved their pool area, even though I'm not a pool person - and even on crowded days you can find a spot to sit and relax. I enjoyed the buffet there very much. Although I've not stayed anywhere else in Las Vegas and subsequently can't compare it to any other Hotel/Casino, I enjoyed my stay and would definately recommend it to anyone.

The only two that come to mind that I wasn't expecting when I visited Vegas the first time is the amount of walking (being from the car-loving midwest). MGM is HUGE, plan on doing A LOT of walking just to get around the hotel. LOTS!! (Kathy, you're probably already aware of this but I'll say it anyway...)MGM is really at one end of the strip and if you want to see anything on the other end plan on even more walking or a cab!

Enjoy. Drink lots of water, the heat can be overwhelming!!

I'll be brutally honest, Kathy. If you've stayed at TI recently (post room renovation) I think you'll be just a little disappointed by MGM. Lots of little things add up to detract. Impersonal, feels busier than a lot of other casinos, too long a walk to get to your room, elevators hidden away, casino OK but not great. Not that MGM is bad--it's not. But the competition in Vegas is fierce, and I think TI does a better job for the buck. MGM's location is good for visiting many of the newer casinos on foot.

The MGM is Huge!!! My sister-in-law visited in there and got lost for 7 1/2 hours and finally had to use and emergency exit that let her out to to back of the hotel!!! Better find a good Map and a Shirpa to navigate that place!!!

7 1/2 hours!!! That's a little excessive in one hotel, don't you think? One to many margaritas maybe? I agree, the MGM is huge, but not that huge.

Thanks for the input. I'm not as concerned with the hotel being huge as I am with the Emerald Towers rooms - we'll just hope for the best. I agree TI is a great place but we wanted to stay up the strip and felt the MGM will get us closer to the ones we missed last trip. Thanks for the input and we'll just hope the Emerald Tower room we get will be okay.

We stayed in an emerald tower room about a year ago and it was nice. It wasn't huge by any means but the view was nice and the bathroom, too. I didn't really mind how large the hotel is or the fact that you have to walk through the casino (that's the bread and butter). I would stay there again if I got a good rate. Yes, you have to be prepared to walk but if you stayed at Treasure Island you already know that (I hear the buses are good but we didn't go on one). I think you will like the MGM. And it's nice to stay somewhere different since there are so many places to check out in Vegas. Also if you are interested in going to Studio 54 guests don't pay cover. We went and it was OK but we were glad we didn't have to pay to get in- not worth it.
