Mexican folk art in San Diego

Please recommend a few stores where I can buy talavera, Day of the Dead figurines, clay sculptures, animal wood carvings, alebrijes, etc--at reasonable prices.

'Artes de Mexico' in the Bazaar del Mundo in Old Town.
I worked in this shop for about a year, (long ago!) but even then it was absolutely wonderful. The buyer at the time not only had a great eye, she was also very knowledgeable about the Mexican culture and arts. Beautiful, interesting, unique stuff.

Bazaar del Mundo is also just a delightful place to shop & to eat.

Lucie, the Bazaar has been closed for almost two years. There are a couple of shops left, next to the Casa Guadalajara, but that's all.

tek, you may find what you're looking for there. They have some lovely stuff.

Barbara & tek, I do apologize -- their website "looks" active, but I don't live there & haven't visited in several years. If there is any place even half as good as Artes de Mexico, you'll be good, tek!

Barbara, I just telephoned them and they are indeed open! Apparently, they moved nearly all of their boutiques to another location on Taylor St., so the website that I provided is totally accurate.

I highly recommend Artes de Mexico, tek.

Lucie, as I said, there are two shops there. Most of the shops closed. What's left is right next to the Casa Guadalajara. I was there just before Christmas.

Well, this is wierd, Barbara. I called their number less than an hour ago, and I was told, in no uncertain terms, by a real human being (not voice mail!) that they'd moved all except two of the shops to the new location. I specifically asked if Artes de Mexico was one of the shops that they had kept, and the woman specifically said yes! I guess she's bs'ing me?! Very strange, I must say!

In any case, if I were looking for good Mexican folk art in San Diego, I'd call the number on the website. Because if that particular shop does exist anywhere in SD, it's definitely worth seeking out, imo!
